Sherwin-Williams posted stronger-than-expected third-quarter sales but missed the reported Wall Street adjusted-EPS estimate on October 27, 2026. Net sales rose 7.9% to $6.86 billion, beating Investing.com’s $6.78 billion consensus, while adjusted diluted EPS increased 1.1% to $3.63, below the $3.69 estimate. The shortfall reflects margin and cost-conversion pressure—not a collapse in demand—while management narrowed full-year earnings guidance and warned that demand could remain muted into 2027.
Why did Sherwin-Williams miss Q3 2026 EPS estimates?
The company sold more, but a smaller share of each sales dollar reached profit. Sherwin-Williams said gross margin was pressured by higher raw-material and supply-chain costs, unfavorable product mix, Suvinil-related expenses and higher interest costs from increased debt. Faster growth in lower-margin reportable segments also diluted profit conversion.
Adjusted diluted EPS was $3.63, compared with GAAP diluted EPS of $3.38. The adjusted figure excludes specified items and is the measure used for the analyst comparison. Net income nevertheless fell 1.5% year over year to $821.0 million, showing that sales growth did not translate into equivalent bottom-line growth.

How large was the earnings miss?
Investing.com reported a $3.69 analyst estimate, putting the shortfall at $0.06 per share, or about 1.6%. That consensus is an external estimate, not Sherwin-Williams’ own accounting figure. Revenue exceeded the same source’s forecast by $80 million, or approximately 1.2%.

Was Sherwin-Williams’ revenue actually strong if earnings missed?
Yes. Consolidated sales growth was broad-based, and the company said pricing contributed a mid-single-digit percentage to sales. Consumer Brands Group
The 21.7% sales increase was primarily acquisition-driven. Suvinil added revenue but also brought dilution to consolidated mix and additional selling, general and administrative expense, making the segment’s contribution less profitable than the headline growth rate might suggest.
Performance Coatings Group
General Industrial, Packaging and Coil each recorded double-digit sales growth. Even with that momentum, segment profit increased less than sales, consistent with the company’s broader explanation that input costs and mix affected margins.
How did Suvinil affect the quarter?
Suvinil, a paint brand acquired by Sherwin-Williams, increased Consumer Brands sales and broadened the company’s international portfolio. What is Sherwin-Williams’ 2026 EPS guidance after the miss?
