PS2 to PS3: an HD remaster
The PS3 release is the HD remaster in this comparison. The available sources do not establish a complete set of resolution, frame-rate, lighting, texture, or other asset specifications for it, so exact technical claims about how it compares with PS2 would go beyond the documented information.
PS4: rebuilt visuals
Sony describes the PS4 version as having improved visuals and being rebuilt from the ground up. That supports calling it a remake with a substantially renewed presentation; it does not, by itself, establish specific pixel counts or a frame-rate figure for every PS4 model.
For PS4 Pro, Sony’s release-era announcement described an option targeting 30 fps at dynamic 4K resolution. “Targeting” is important: this is a mode description for PS4 Pro, not a guarantee of a fixed resolution or a universal specification for standard PS4 hardware or every display. Did performance or controls change how it plays?
Sony lists enhanced performance and optional updated controls among the PS4 remake’s features. Since the updated controls are optional, players are not required to use them. The published product information does not detail every control difference across the three releases, so it cannot establish a full button-by-button comparison.
There is one specific reported PS3 gameplay consequence worth separating from the general comparison. In an interview excerpt attributed to Bluepoint senior producer Daryl Allison, a steadier frame rate on PS3 was associated with the third colossus becoming more difficult. Which version can you get?
Sony’s product page confirms a PS4 edition. The PlayStation Blog also documented a PS4 Special Edition at release, including a SteelBook case, postcards, a printed manual, digital extras, themes, an avatar set, a physical world map, and stickers. That release-era announcement establishes what the edition included, not whether it is currently in stock or available from a particular seller.
