SGNL said it plans to use the money for hiring, go-to-market expansion, product development, customer support and broader market expansion. Those are stated plans, not evidence that each initiative has already been completed.
TechCrunch reported that SGNL had not disclosed its valuation or customer list. SGNL’s release nevertheless claimed that it serves multiple Fortune 50 companies and a growing number of Fortune 500 enterprises.
What is SGNL?
SGNL is an enterprise security software company founded in 2021. It describes its product as a Continuous Identity platform for making access decisions from current context rather than relying only on permanent role assignments.
#1 Best Overall
- FIDO2 & Passkey Ready: Business-ready and FIDO2 L1 certified. This key is supported by major management suites and is ideal for both individual and enterprise deployment. Works seamlessly with Gmail, Facebook, GitHub, Dropbox, Coinbase, and more.
- Universal Connectivity (USB-A ): Features a built-in USB-A connector—simply unfold the key and plug it into your compatible PC or laptop for seamless authentication on the go.
- Dedicated Manager App: Use the Thetis Manager App for the initial hardware PIN setup. Setting the PIN on the device first ensures a smooth registration process. Once the PIN is configured, you can begin registering the key across your favorite FIDO2-compatible online services.
- Ultra-Durable & Portable: Featuring a rotating metal cover, this key is water, crush, and tamper-resistant. It fits easily on a keychain and requires no batteries or network connectivity.
- Check FIDO2 compatibility before purchase - Known limitations: ID Austria is not supported (requires FIDO2 Level 2). Windows Hello login only works with Windows Enterprise editions that support Entra ID, and NFC is NOT supported.
The company positions this model as “zero standing privilege”: access is granted when conditions warrant it and revoked when those conditions no longer apply. That is SGNL’s product positioning, not an independently measured outcome.
What does SGNL’s identity platform do?
Combines identity data and policy evaluation
SGNL says its platform combines three principal components:
Rank #2
- A FIDO security key with PUF technology provides a unique, hardware-rooted trust anchor that resists tampering and cyber attacks, offering stronger security than conventional designs.
- FIDO2 Certified Protection – Enjoy phishing-resistant security with FIDO2 certification, ensuring top-tier account safety across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS iOS, Android and more.
- Easy to use & Portable – Designed with a compact USB-C interface, Clife key fits easily on your keychain for secure access anywhere. Simply plug in and authenticate with ease.
- Universal Compatibility – Works seamlessly with hundreds of FIDO2/U2F compliant services, including popular cloud, email, and social platforms.
- Backup recommended – To ensure continuous access, register a backup Clife security key as a spare in case your primary key is lost.
- Identity Data Fabric: context drawn from systems of record and other enterprise sources.
- Dynamic Policy Engine: evaluates that context to determine whether access should be allowed.
- CAEP Hub: a real-time event framework intended to communicate changes that can affect access.
Using those components, the platform is designed to make contextual, continuous access decisions instead of treating an assigned role as permanent authorization.
Where SGNL says it can enforce policy
SGNL says its controls can apply across cloud infrastructure such as AWS and Azure; SaaS applications including Salesforce and GitHub; API gateways; MCP servers; and custom applications. An earlier company announcement said the platform was available as SaaS and could also be deployed in Azure and AWS VPCs.

What the company claims about operational impact
SGNL’s funding release gave an example of one unnamed company reducing 30,000 role assignments to six policies. That example is a company claim and was not independently substantiated in the sources available for this report; it should not be treated as a measured result for every deployment.
Why SGNL says continuous identity is needed
Traditional identity and access management commonly relies on standing role assignments. SGNL argues that cloud services, distributed applications and rapidly changing business context require access decisions that can react in real time.
Rank #4
- USB-C or tap via NFC for easy authentication on any compatible device. No drivers needed; optional Kensington software available for advanced management features.
- Works across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, ChromeOS, and supports Passkeys and Apple ID.
- Slim, keychain-ready form for easy carry and on-the-go authentication
- IP68-rated for dependable performance
- FIDO CTAP 2.1 for enhanced security features (e.g. resident credentials, Passkey support) and backwards compatibility with CTAP 2. FIDO2 L2 certified security for phishing resistant protection against identity theft and unauthorized access.
In the funding announcement, SGNL co-founder and CEO Scott Kriz said: “The current cloud-first, AI era demands a more dynamic, real-time approach—one that eliminates standing access, improves security, and reduces operational burden.” This is the company’s rationale for its product strategy.
Stephen Ward of Brightmind Partners, identified in the release as a former Fortune 50 CISO, said: “As the former CISO of a Fortune 50 company, I saw firsthand how enterprises were investing tens of millions in PAM and IGA systems, expecting stronger security, but instead, these solutions often added complexity and operational overhead without solving the core challenges.” That statement describes his viewpoint; it is not an independent assessment of every privileged-access-management or identity-governance deployment.
Best Value
- Strong MFA: FIDO2 provides strong authentication to eliminate account takeovers
- Multi-platform: Works with everyday devices, including phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops
- Easy Authentication: Authenticate across all services (e.g., Gmail, Facebook, Salesforce, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Convenient: Fits in your wallet like a credit card
What the funding does—and does not—establish
- The financing amount, lead investor and participating investors were announced by SGNL on February 12, 2025.
- SGNL said its cumulative funding reached $42 million after the round.
- The company has identified intended spending areas, but the announcement does not document completed hiring, product releases or revenue results from the financing.
- Customer names, valuation and independently verified performance metrics were not disclosed in the cited reporting.
- The Fortune 50 customer references and the reduction from 30,000 role assignments to six policies remain attributed company claims.
Bottom line for enterprise buyers
SGNL’s Series A gives the company capital to expand a platform built around continuous, context-aware access decisions. Its architecture centers on identity data, dynamic policies and real-time events across cloud, SaaS, APIs, MCP servers and custom applications. The funding confirms investor backing and SGNL’s stated expansion plans; it does not by itself verify customer outcomes, security improvements or a valuation.
