Jake Sanderson returned to practice Friday, October 2, after missing several days, but Ottawa had not confirmed whether the defenseman would play against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, October 3. Reports described his issue as undisclosed, so his practice return is an encouraging sign—not confirmation of clearance.
What is Sanderson’s status for Saturday?
As of reports published October 2, Sanderson might be available for Ottawa’s game against Toronto the following day. Both reports characterized his status as uncertain; neither confirmed that he had been cleared or would be in the lineup. CBS Sports and RotoWire noted his return to practice Friday after several days away.
What is known about the injury?
The reports called Sanderson’s issue undisclosed. They did not identify a diagnosis, affected area, severity, or medical timeline, so none can be stated from the available reporting.
What points toward a possible return?
Return to practice
Sanderson’s participation in Friday’s practice was a positive indication, but it did not establish that he was ready to play. RotoWire reported that his participation in the morning skate could make his Saturday status clearer.

Ottawa’s roster move
CBS Sports cited Ottawa’s decision to send defenseman Hoyt Stanley to the minors as another sign Sanderson could be ready. That move is supporting context, not evidence that Sanderson had received medical clearance.
What would a return mean for fantasy lineups?
If Sanderson is cleared to play, CBS Sports expects him to resume his place on Ottawa’s top power-play unit. That assignment is also conditional, not a confirmed lineup decision. Fantasy managers should check Ottawa’s final lineup before relying on him or the projected power-play role.
