In June 2026, search engines drew an estimated 162.19 billion monthly website visits, compared with 8.26 billion for AI chatbots—about 19.6 times as many. Those figures, attributed to OneLittleWeb by USATimes247, show a large gap in reported web-visit volume, not a count of people or proof that chatbots are—or are not—replacing search.

What the June 2026 comparison says

USATimes247 reported that OneLittleWeb’s June 2026 estimates put search-engine traffic at 162.19 billion monthly visits and AI-chatbot traffic at 8.26 billion. Dividing the two reported totals gives a ratio of roughly 19.6 to 1. These are reported estimates, not figures independently verified by the earlier OneLittleWeb study available at OneLittleWeb, which covers April 2023 through March 2025. The June 2026 comparison was reported by USATimes247 on October 1, 2026.

The unit matters: a visit to a website is not necessarily a unique person, a search query, or a measure of time spent or value received. Nor does a web-traffic total capture use inside mobile apps. Read the ratio as a comparison of estimated website visits under the reporting’s definitions.

How the earlier OneLittleWeb study compares

OneLittleWeb’s original study reports a separate, earlier period. Its figures provide historical context, but they should not be blended with the June 2026 totals as though both came from one continuous dataset.

Period and measure Search engines AI chatbots
April 2024–March 2025 total visits 1.86 trillion 55.2 billion
Year-over-year change for April 2024–March 2025 versus the preceding 12 months Down 0.51% Up 80.92%
Average daily visits in March 2025 5.5 billion 233.1 million

These figures are from OneLittleWeb’s April 2023–March 2025 study. They show that chatbot visits grew much faster year over year in the measured period, while search-engine visits remained far larger in absolute volume. Growth rate and total scale answer different questions: a smaller category can grow quickly and still trail substantially.

What the traffic counts include—and leave out

For its earlier analysis, OneLittleWeb compared estimated global web traffic from selected top-10 lists: ten chatbot sites chosen using AITools.xyz popularity data and ten search engines selected using a shortlist and March 2025 traffic estimates. The study says it used Semrush visit estimates. It tracked monthly visits, year-over-year changes, and average monthly and daily visits.

  • Selected sites, not every service: The totals reflect the sites included in the study’s category samples; they are not a census of every search engine or chatbot.
  • Websites, not mobile apps: OneLittleWeb excluded mobile-app traffic, citing a lack of reliable unified cross-platform data. The web figures therefore do not measure all chatbot or search use.
  • Domain choices affect coverage: The study counted .com domains for most services, with yandex.ru as an exception, and acknowledges that domain normalization affects completeness.
  • Estimates, not direct counts of interactions: The results concern estimated website visits. They should not be restated as users, searches, queries, or total engagement.

The October 2026 secondary report describes its analysis as covering 10,171 global websites and 283.65 billion overall network visits, drawing on Semrush and Ahrefs browser-traffic estimates. That description is separate from the accessible OneLittleWeb study’s earlier period and methodology; the two should not be merged into a single account of how the June 2026 figures were produced.

Do these figures prove chatbots are replacing search?

No. A large difference in visits establishes a difference in scale for the measured categories; it does not reveal what people would have done otherwise. The totals cannot show whether a chatbot visit replaced a search visit, whether both were used for the same task, or which experience gave a user a better result. Likewise, a small decline in search-engine visits during the earlier study period does not establish that chatbots caused it.

OneLittleWeb quotes Jason Barnard, CEO at Kalicube, saying: “AI chatbots aren’t replacing search, they’re converging with it. Every major platform that SEOs should prioritize is evolving into a unified “research engine” that blends large language models, traditional search, and knowledge graphs to deliver richer, more contextual results.” This is an expert’s interpretation, not a causal finding from the traffic counts, and it is commentary from the earlier study—not a response to the June 2026 figures.

How to read the headline

For the reported June 2026 website-visit totals, search engines led by a wide margin. The earlier OneLittleWeb study also found chatbot visits growing much faster year over year than search-engine visits from April 2024 to March 2025. Together, those observations describe scale and momentum in different periods; they do not settle whether user behavior is shifting from one category to the other.
