Choose ScreenshotOne when your main job is producing webpage screenshots and you want screenshot-focused rendering controls plus vendor-advertised cleanup for common cookie banners, ads, and chat widgets. Choose Browserless when screenshots are one part of a larger browser-automation workflow involving scraping, custom browser functions, PDFs, or site-unblocking tools. Browserless REST requests are stateless, so persistent state or multi-step work needs a different workflow. This is a comparison of documented product scope, not an independent benchmark.
ScreenshotOne vs. Browserless at a glance
| Decision | ScreenshotOne | Browserless |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | Screenshot-focused capture and rendering options. | Screenshots alongside broader browser automation and scraping tasks. |
| Capture controls | Documented options include full-page capture, element targeting, scrolling, image formats, dark mode, and PDF output. A section-based full-page algorithm is available for complex animated pages. | Puppeteer-style screenshot options include full-page capture, selector-specific cropping, waits, navigation settings, and request filtering. |
| Page cleanup and access | The vendor advertises filtering for cookie banners, ads, and chat widgets. This does not establish that it bypasses bot restrictions or works on every site. | Browser controls and site-unblocking tools are part of its wider API surface. Ordinary screenshot requests may still encounter blocked pages. |
| State between requests | Evaluate the request options against the task and required state. | REST calls are stateless: browser state and cookies are discarded after each response. Multi-step or persistent workflows require another approach. |
| Price model | A Browserless-authored comparison article published around September 2026 listed $17/month for 2,000 screenshots and an overage rate; confirm current official terms. | The same comparison listed $25/month billed annually with 20,000 units, described in browser-time terms. Confirm current official terms and compare units with your workload, not just image counts. |
Prices above are a volatile snapshot from a vendor-authored comparison, not a live or independently maintained price survey. The official plan pages are ScreenshotOne Pricing and Browserless Pricing. Browserless describes its units in browser-time terms, while ScreenshotOne’s comparison describes billing successful non-cached screenshots; those are not directly equivalent measures.
Which screenshot API should you use?
Choose ScreenshotOne for a screenshot-first workload
ScreenshotOne is the closer fit if your application mostly turns URLs, HTML, or Markdown into images or PDFs and benefits from controls tailored to rendering. Its documentation covers full-page capture, target-element capture and scrolling, image formats and quality, dark-mode requests, transparent backgrounds in supported formats, and PDF output. For complex animated pages, its documented full_page_algorithm=by_sections option captures and combines sections. These controls can help shape a capture, but they do not guarantee a perfect render on every target page. See ScreenshotOne’s screenshot options.
ScreenshotOne advertises filtering common cookie banners, ads, and chat widgets. Treat that as a vendor capability claim to verify against the specific sites and overlays you need to handle, not as a promise to bypass bot checks or access restrictions. Its current product page also advertises a free monthly allowance; offers can change, so check the live page before choosing a plan: ScreenshotOne.
Choose Browserless when screenshots are one browser task among several
Browserless documents a REST screenshot endpoint that accepts a URL or raw HTML and returns an image. The broader REST API suite also includes PDF rendering, rendered HTML, structured scraping, custom function execution, downloads, Lighthouse performance audits, and an /unblock endpoint. If your product may grow from taking screenshots into extraction or browser-side code execution, that breadth may matter more than screenshot-specific convenience. See Browserless’s Screenshot API and its REST API overview.
Browserless REST calls handle stateless single tasks: browser state and cookies are discarded after the response. For a multi-step sequence in one browser session, the REST documentation points to using /function within a single session or choosing a persistent browser/session product. Advanced stealth and interactive CAPTCHA needs may call for BrowserQL rather than ordinary REST calls.

Consider ScreenshotNeo first as another screenshot API
If the requirement is a screenshot API rather than a wider browser platform, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it removes common consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots—not bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, or cache hits.
Can Browserless take full-page screenshots?
Yes. Browserless’s screenshot endpoint documents a full-page option as well as selector-specific cropping. It also supports waits and navigation options through shared request configuration. Set the options to match the content you need, then inspect real outputs: a full-page setting by itself may not cause every site’s lazy-loaded content to appear. Browserless’s screenshot documentation describes the available controls.
ScreenshotOne also documents full-page capture and element targeting, plus scrolling behavior and a section-based algorithm for complex animated pages. When comparing the two, use the same URLs, viewport dimensions, wait conditions, output formats, and content-loading expectations.

How do I capture only one element?
Both services document element-oriented capture. In ScreenshotOne, use its element-targeting options and, when necessary, its scrolling behavior to bring the target into view. In Browserless, use selector-specific cropping in the screenshot request. The selector must match the page’s actual DOM and be available when the capture runs; a missing or late-loaded element can produce an error, an incomplete capture, or an unexpected result. Check the relevant vendor’s current option names and request format before implementing: ScreenshotOne options and Browserless Screenshot API.
How to evaluate both services for your workload
- Build a representative URL set. Include the sites, authentication states, page lengths, and dynamic content your application actually needs to capture.
- Normalize the request. Use the same viewport, target selector, wait behavior, output format, and full-page expectations wherever each service supports them.
- Check content loading. Include pages with lazy-loaded images or other below-the-fold content. Configure scrolling or documented wait conditions when needed, then inspect whether the final image contains the required content.
- Test access failures. Check how each service handles bot checks, CAPTCHA screens, access-denied pages, timeouts, and missing elements. Do not treat a returned image as proof that the page rendered correctly.
- Model the actual bill. Verify current plans, overages, cache treatment, and usage units. A browser-runtime unit and a successful non-cached screenshot are different denominators.
- Decide whether state is required. If a workflow must preserve cookies or interact with a page across multiple steps, account for Browserless REST’s stateless behavior and evaluate a session-capable approach rather than assuming independent screenshot calls share state.
Neither vendor’s claims establish that its output is more reliable or higher quality than the other’s. No independent side-by-side benchmark is available here; validate using your own target pages and acceptance criteria.

Common screenshot failures and how to respond
Blank or white captures, CAPTCHA, or access denied
Browserless identifies blank or white screenshots, CAPTCHA pages, access-denied or 403 responses, and missing or broken elements as signs that a site may be blocking automation. Its /unblock endpoint may help with some bot-detection cases; its documentation also says advanced fingerprinting and interactive CAPTCHAs may require BrowserQL. It recommends considering residential proxies for best results. These are not guarantees of access, and ScreenshotOne’s overlay filtering should not be mistaken for bot-blocking bypass. Test the specific sites and their access rules.

Lazy-loaded images or missing below-the-fold content
Full-page capture does not necessarily trigger every site’s lazy-loading behavior. Configure documented scrolling or waits, and check the captured image for the content your use case requires. For ScreenshotOne, consider its section-based algorithm for complex animated pages; it still cannot guarantee a perfect render on every page.

Missing element or selector-specific capture
Confirm the selector against the live page and ensure the element exists before capture. If it appears after client-side rendering, wait for the selector or another documented condition instead of relying only on a fixed short delay.
Unexpectedly different results between calls
Check whether the page depends on cookies, authentication, timing, geolocation, or other browser state. Browserless REST does not preserve cookies or browser state after a response; repeated calls should not be assumed to share a session.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does ScreenshotOne accept HTTP requests?
Its getting-started documentation says to use HTTPS; HTTP does not encrypt requests and can expose credentials and other sensitive request data in transit. See ScreenshotOne’s getting-started documentation.
Can Browserless preserve cookies between REST screenshot requests?
No. Browserless REST calls are stateless, and cookies and browser state are discarded after each response. A multi-step or persistent workflow needs a session-oriented approach.
