Microsoft Edge already has a capable screenshot taker: press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page or select an area, add markup, then copy or save the result. Install an extension only when you need features Edge does not provide, such as recording, webcam or microphone capture, mosaic redaction, extra image formats, PDF/video export, or collaboration links.
This guide explains Edge’s built-in tool, how to add an extension safely, and which current Edge Add-ons listings fit different workflows.
What Edge’s built-in Screenshot can do
Microsoft’s Screenshot feature captures a full page or a selected area, including long or moving webpages. You can add comments or markup with a pen or touch input before copying or saving.
Capture a complete scrolling page
- Open the page in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open the three-dot Settings and more menu and choose Screenshot, or right-click the page and choose the screenshot command.
- Select Capture full page. Edge captures the page in one operation, so you do not have to scroll manually.
- Use the markup controls if needed, then choose copy or save.
Capture only part of a page
Start Screenshot and drag over the area you need instead of choosing full-page capture. This is useful for a chart, error message, or a single component where a complete-page image would expose unrelated information.

Availability caveat
Microsoft notes that Screenshot functionality can vary by device type, market, and Edge version. If a command or shortcut is missing, update Edge and check the Settings menu for the feature.
When an Edge screenshot extension is worth installing
Extensions are optional layers over the native tool. Install one when your workflow requires capabilities such as:
- Screen, browser-tab, webcam, or microphone recording.
- Blur, highlight, arrows, shapes, text, or mosaic redaction beyond your preferred native markup.
- PDF export, multiple raster formats, or video export.
- Automatic full-page scrolling and stitching with controls different from Edge’s implementation.
- Share links, online project storage, or integrations with work trackers.
- A customizable keyboard shortcut or a context-menu command.
Review an add-on’s permissions and privacy disclosure before installation. A screenshot extension may be able to read page content, access tabs, or record media, depending on its feature set.

The right choice depends on capture scope, editing and redaction, output, recording, sharing, and data handling—not simply the user count shown in a store listing.

How to install an Edge screenshot extension
- In Edge, select the Extensions puzzle-piece icon. If it is not visible, open Settings and more > Extensions.
- Select Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge.
- Search for the exact listing name, read the publisher, permissions, version history, reviews, and privacy disclosure, then select Get.
- After installation, open the Extensions panel and optionally pin the extension so its capture button stays visible.
- Open the extension’s settings and set its output format, shortcut, save location, or sharing behavior before capturing sensitive pages.
Microsoft’s installation guidance is documented in Microsoft Support. Store listings and privacy disclosures can change, so recheck them when an extension updates.
How to capture a reliable full-page screenshot
- Wait until the page’s visible content has finished loading. For pages that load images as you scroll, use an extension that explicitly supports automatic scrolling and stitching.
- Close transient menus or dialogs that you do not want in the image. If a cookie banner, chat bubble, or newsletter prompt covers content, dismiss it first.
- Choose full-page capture, not visible-area capture. Confirm that the preview includes the bottom of the document and that fixed headers have not been duplicated at every stitch.
- Redact passwords, personal data, tokens, and customer information with blur or mosaic before sharing. Treat a screenshot as a copy of the underlying page, not as an anonymous image.
- Export in a format appropriate to the job: PNG for crisp interface text, JPEG for smaller photographic files, WebP or Avif when the recipient supports them, and PDF when a document-like deliverable or clickable links are required.
- Open the saved file and inspect it at 100 percent before publishing or attaching it to a ticket.
Privacy and permission checklist
- Processing location: QwikCapture says capture, editing, copying, and saving happen locally by default and that upload occurs only after Share image. That is a product statement, not a guarantee that every future version behaves identically.
- Data disclosures: QwikCapture’s listing indicates location-data collection; CocoShot and Easy Screenshot listings say no personal data is collected. Read the current store disclosure for your installed version.
- Recording access: tools offering webcam or microphone recording need broader media permissions than a still-image clipper.
- Sharing: a generated share link may put the image on a third-party service. Prefer local save when the page contains confidential material.
- Enterprise policy: managed Edge installations can block extensions or restrict site access. Ask your administrator rather than attempting to bypass policy.
Troubleshooting common capture failures
The full-page option is missing
Update Edge, try the three-dot menu instead of the shortcut, and test on a normal webpage. Functionality can differ by device, market, and version.

The image stops partway down
The page may require scrolling to trigger lazy-loaded content, may contain an embedded frame, or may change its layout while the extension stitches images. Try Edge’s native full-page command, an extension that advertises automatic scrolling, or capture smaller sections.
Fixed headers or cookie banners repeat
Dismiss banners before capture. If a sticky header is duplicated, use a selected-area capture, hide the header with an extension’s controls when available, or capture in sections and assemble them manually.

Use PNG for text, reduce the browser zoom or output scale, and choose JPEG/WebP/Avif for photographic pages. Check the extension’s export dimensions before recording a very long page.
Recording has no audio or camera
Check Edge’s site permissions, the operating-system microphone/camera permission, and the extension’s recording settings. A managed device may disable media capture.

A sharing link exposes sensitive content
Delete the shared copy if the service provides that control, revoke access where possible, and use a local download for future captures. Redaction applied after upload cannot undo a copy that someone already downloaded.
