For a full-page screenshot, Puppeteer is the better fit when you need a repeatable, automated capture: its Page.screenshot() method supports fullPage: true. Screenshot.Rocks is more useful for a quick first-screen capture or for framing and editing an image; its online capture and browser extension do not capture an entire scrolling page. If you need a one-off full-page image without code, use your browser’s built-in full-page capture instead.
What each option can capture
Screenshot.Rocks: first screen, visible tab, or editing
Screenshot.Rocks’ online URL tool captures the first screen and says to use browser full-page capture for a whole page (Screenshot.Rocks; full-page guide). It is free and does not require an account, but its remote capture cannot access pages behind a login, local addresses such as localhost, or sites that block automated browsers. For those cases, Screenshot.Rocks advises taking a screenshot in your own browser and adding it to the editor.
The Screenshot.Rocks browser extension captures the visible portion of the current tab, including a logged-in page, and opens it in the editor. It does not provide full-page capture. Its product page says that clicked captures are sent to Screenshot.Rocks and not stored, and that the Chrome and Edge extension requests the activeTab permission (Screenshot.Rocks extension). These are vendor statements, not independent audit findings.
Puppeteer: automated full-page capture
Puppeteer is a code-driven browser automation tool. Its official guide says to use Page.screenshot() for screenshots; the current options reference documents fullPage: true for capturing the full page, with a default of false (Puppeteer screenshot guide; ScreenshotOptions API, version 25.12.0 at the time of the cited research).

There is no controlled head-to-head speed, image-fidelity, or reliability benchmark in the cited documentation. If those factors matter, test the actual pages and environment you plan to capture.
Capture a full page with Puppeteer
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project, then save this as screenshot.js. It opens the URL, waits for navigation using networkidle2, captures the full page, and closes the browser even if capture fails:

})();Run it with node screenshot.js. Replace the example URL and output path as needed. Puppeteer’s guide uses networkidle2 in its navigation example; it is a starting wait strategy, not a promise that every site has finished rendering or will behave deterministically.

fullPage: truecaptures beyond the viewport to include the full page. The documented default isfalse.pathwrites the image to a file. For a whole-page image, start with fullPage: true and omit clip. If you need a region instead, use clip and specify the desired rectangle.
Capture without writing code
Screenshot.Rocks’ full-page guide points to built-in browser controls rather than a full-page function in its own online capture or extension. It lists these actions (Screenshot.Rocks full-page guide):
- Chrome: Open DevTools and use “Capture full size screenshot.”
- Firefox: Use “Save full page.”
- Edge: Use “Capture full page.”
- Safari: Use the screenshot action in Web Inspector.
Browser menus and labels can change. For a long page with lazy-loaded images, scroll down and back up before capturing so images have a chance to load. Very tall pages may exceed browser image-height limits; capture sections or a smaller relevant area if the full image fails.

Common problems and fixes
Lazy-loaded images are missing
Some pages load images only as they approach the viewport. Scroll through the page and back before taking a browser-native capture. In Puppeteer, a navigation wait condition alone may not trigger every lazy-loaded element; make the page scroll through its content before the screenshot if the target site needs that behavior.
The page is blank, incomplete, or still changing
networkidle2 is the wait strategy in Puppeteer’s example, but a site may continue rendering after network activity settles, or maintain connections that prevent a network-idle condition. If the result is incomplete, wait for a relevant selector or a suitable delay before capture. Choose a condition that matches the page rather than assuming one navigation setting works for every site.

Very tall pages can hit browser image-height limits. Capture a smaller section or multiple sections instead of one enormous image. Screenshot.Rocks’ guide explicitly warns about this limitation.

Screenshot.Rocks cannot capture the URL
Check that the URL is correct and that the page loads in a regular browser. The service says its online capture may fail when a page takes too long or blocks automated browsers, and it cannot reach local addresses or content behind a login. Use a local browser capture for a logged-in or local page.
Puppeteer cannot reach a page or capture consistently
The API documents screenshot controls, not guaranteed access or identical rendering for every site. Check the URL, navigation outcome, and the page’s loading behavior; choose a wait condition suited to that site and reproduce the same browser state when comparing captures. For a local or staging target, confirm that the machine running Puppeteer can reach it.

Puppeteer adds browser setup and automation code, but it lets you repeat a capture workflow and choose screenshot options. A browser-native capture avoids writing that code for a one-off image. Screenshot.Rocks’ editor is aimed at styling and framing rather than automated full-page capture. No cited source establishes which route is faster or more reliable across sites, so validate the choice against your target pages.

Puppeteer’s page.pdf() is a separate PDF workflow and uses print CSS media by default; to render screen media for PDF output, the API says to emulate screen media first (Puppeteer PDF API). Do not treat PDF output as equivalent to a full-page PNG screenshot.
