A screenshot creator is a design tool for turning raw in-app captures into listing-ready visual assets. Depending on the tool, you can place screenshots inside phone or tablet frames, add a background and brief explanatory text, arrange several images into a sequence, and export files for a store listing. Some tools also advertise feature-graphic layouts or AI transformations.
The creator is not the place where the listing is published. Google Play Console is where you upload the screenshots and other listing assets. Google says a store listing can appear on Google Play surfaces such as search and the listing itself, so the images should make sense both as a set and when a user encounters one image on its own.

The central job is not to decorate every screenshot. It is to help a prospective user understand the app’s primary flows while keeping the real interface legible.
Google Play screenshot requirements to check before export
Google Play Console Help’s current guidance sets the following screenshot requirements:

Keep screenshot text and essential interface content clear at smaller display sizes. Google recommends high-quality screenshots that remain effective when resized, and says to use imagery that conveys the app’s primary user flows. It also advises against ranking, award, price and promotional claims in screenshots. The available guidance does not establish one universal pixel canvas for every phone, tablet, TV or orientation; check the current Play Console requirements for the asset category and device type you are preparing.

Plan the screenshots as a visual story
Choose flows before choosing frames
List the tasks a new user most needs to understand: for example, getting started, performing the app’s main action, and seeing the result. Capture those real screens from the app rather than building fictional interfaces in a mockup. A sequence should answer a user’s questions in order, not merely repeat the same screen with different slogans.
- Put the clearest expression of the app’s core value first.
- Use later images to show distinct steps or capabilities, not redundant views.
- Keep important controls, text and results visible and centered within the usable area.
- Use enough context to make a flow understandable, but avoid small interface details that disappear when resized.
Write captions that clarify, not overwhelm
A short caption can tell viewers why a screen matters, but the app itself should remain the evidence. Use concise language, a readable type size and a consistent hierarchy. Avoid stuffing an image with feature lists or claims users cannot verify from the screen. Google recommends limited text because screenshots can be resized on different store surfaces.
Make a consistent set
Use a restrained palette, repeatable frame treatment and consistent caption placement. Consistency helps the screenshots read as one product; variation should come from the app flows being shown. Device frames can provide context, but they should not shrink the actual interface until it is difficult to inspect.
How to make and upload listing screenshots
- Capture the app. Use a representative build and record the real screens for the primary user flows. Capture on the device types you intend to represent; do not substitute a promotional illustration for a screenshot of the app experience.
- Select a creator. Confirm that it can export the device types and orientations you need, preserve the screenshot at readable resolution, and provide control over captions, typography and backgrounds. Check whether export dimensions can be set or verified.
- Arrange the sequence. Lead with the most immediately understandable flow. Add only the text needed to orient the viewer, and keep important app content clear.
- Check each exported file. Verify JPEG or 24-bit PNG format, dimensions from 320 through 3,840 px, and an aspect ratio no wider or taller than 2:1. Review the image at a reduced size to catch captions or interface details that have become illegible.
- Prepare language variants if needed. Google Play supports localized screenshots and graphic assets for supported languages. Provide matching localized visuals and copy so users whose language matches can see the localized versions.
- Upload in Play Console. Add the completed assets to the appropriate store-listing asset area in Play Console, then review the listing and confirm the files appear in the intended device and language contexts. Console labels may change; use the current store-listing workflow and requirements shown in your account.

Before choosing any tool, compare the coverage that matters for your listing:
- Export compliance: Can you produce the required file formats, dimensions and aspect ratios?
- Device coverage: Does it handle the phone, tablet, Android TV or orientation assets relevant to your app?
- Sequence and batch work: Can you make a coherent multi-slide set and efficiently produce variants?
- Design control: Can you adjust captions, type, frames and templates without hiding the interface?
- Localization: Can you maintain separate copy and assets for supported languages?
- Privacy and cost: Check the tool’s own current terms for uploaded screenshots, offline use, pricing and advertising. The cited product descriptions do not establish those terms.
When the official Device Art Generator is enough
Use Android’s Device Art Generator when the main need is a framed device image for a website or other promotional material. Android describes the resulting artwork as adding visual context to app screenshots in those settings. It also explicitly cautions against using the generated artwork alone in a Play feature image or screenshot. For a store listing, combine a genuine app screenshot with a compliant finished asset rather than treating the frame generator as the entire solution.
Listing text and localized assets
Screenshot composition is only one part of the listing. Google Play Console’s current text limits are 30 characters for the app name, 80 for the short description and 4,000 for the full description. These limits apply to their respective listing fields, not to screenshot captions.
For a multilingual launch, provide localized screenshots and graphic assets for supported languages. Google says users with a matching language can see the localized versions. Translate captions and adapt examples where needed; leaving English promotional text embedded in an otherwise localized image weakens the experience.

Troubleshooting common screenshot problems
Play Console rejects a file
Check the actual exported file rather than the canvas shown in the editor. Confirm it is JPEG or 24-bit PNG, neither dimension is below 320 px or above 3,840 px, and the longer dimension is no more than twice the shorter. Re-export after correcting the format or canvas size.
The image looks cramped or text is unreadable
Reduce the amount of caption text, increase its size, or simplify the layout. Keep the key screen and caption away from the edges, and inspect the image at a smaller size to approximate how it may appear after resizing.
The sequence feels repetitive
Assign each image a distinct purpose tied to a primary flow or important capability. Replace near-duplicates with screens that show a meaningful next step or outcome.
A mockup looks attractive but misrepresents the app
Use authentic app captures and inspect any AI-transformed output against the real interface. Device framing and backgrounds can add context; they should not invent features or conceal what the app actually looks like.

A listing image includes a claim Google advises against
Remove ranking, award, price or promotional claims from the screenshot and let the actual product experience carry the message. Google’s recommendation is to focus imagery on primary user flows.

Check that the localized screenshot and graphic assets have been supplied for the supported language in the Play Console workflow. A translated listing description alone is not the same as localized imagery.
