The official material located for this topic documents Screenshot API at screenshot-api.net; it does not establish that the service is called VisualScraper or that VisualScraper and Screenshot API are the same product. The limits below therefore apply to the screenshot-api.net service, not to an unverified VisualScraper account.
Screenshot API has two independent limits: a per-second request rate for bursts and a monthly render allowance for total usage. As of the vendor pages reviewed October 3, 2026, plans range from 1 request per second and 100 renders per month on Free to 50 requests per second and 100,000 renders per month on Business. What are the published rate limits and monthly quotas?
The following limits and snapshot-set counts are vendor-published specifications in Screenshot API’s documentation, reviewed October 3, 2026; they are not independent load-test results. The prices are published on its product page and may change.
| Plan | Renders per month | Requests per second | Snapshot sets | Published monthly price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 100 | 1 | 1 | $0 |
| Starter | 2,000 | 5 | 5 | $9 |
| Pro | 10,000 | 10 | 20 | $29 |
| Team | 25,000 | 25 | 50 | $49 |
| Business | 100,000 | 50 | 200 | $149 |
Limits and snapshot-set quantities come from the official documentation; listed prices come from the official product page, both reviewed October 3, 2026. Check the vendor’s current pages before choosing a plan.

Why are there two separate limits?
The requests-per-second ceiling controls how quickly requests arrive; the monthly render allowance controls the total number of renders in the billing period. The vendor documents them as independent controls. A brief burst can exceed the per-second limit while plenty of monthly quota remains. Conversely, steady traffic can use up the monthly allowance without ever exceeding the rate limit.
What do 429, 402, 502 and 503 errors mean?
Check both the HTTP status and the response’s stable error field rather than treating every failed request as a quota problem. Screenshot API’s documentation gives these meanings and remedies:
| Status and error | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
429 rate_limited |
Too many requests per second. | Honor the Retry-After response header, reduce concurrency or pace requests, then retry after the stated delay. |
402 quota_reached |
The monthly render allowance is exhausted. | Upgrade or wait for the monthly reset. Repeating the request immediately does not add quota. |
502 render_failed |
The page did not load or render. | The documentation says failed renders are refunded and the reserved unit is released. |
503 busy |
Renderers are saturated. | Retry after a short pause; the documentation says the reserved unit is released. |
These error definitions and recovery directions are from the vendor’s documentation. A 429 calls for pacing; a 402 calls for a quota decision, not more aggressive retries.

How can you check remaining quota and reset timing?
Image responses include X-Quota-Limit, the plan’s monthly render allowance, and X-Quota-Remaining, the renders left in the period. The /v1/account endpoint returns plan and current usage information. The vendor also says remaining quota is visible in the dashboard. See the documentation and product page.
The quota resets at the start of each calendar month in UTC. Unused renders do not roll over, according to the product page. If usage is close to the limit, check the dashboard or account endpoint before deciding whether to reduce capture frequency, upgrade, or wait for the reset. These reset details were reviewed October 3, 2026; verify them with the vendor if timing is consequential.
How should you estimate quota for scheduled snapshots?
Estimate total monthly renders from the number of pages, widths, and scheduled runs, then compare that total with the plan allowance. A snapshot set with 10 pages at 2 widths on an hourly schedule consumes 14,400 renders per month in the vendor’s example calculation. That is Screenshot API’s illustrative calculation, not an independently measured usage study. The documentation’s snapshot-set counts are a separate plan dimension; having enough sets does not by itself mean the monthly render quota is sufficient.

- Count each configured page and width for every scheduled run.
- Compare the expected monthly total with renders per month, not just requests per second.
- Separately consider whether a burst of simultaneous captures could exceed the plan’s per-second rate.
For the schedule example and plan constraints, see the official documentation.

If your goal is simply to get clean website screenshots, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF, and the API accepts the parameter names other screenshot APIs use, which can make switching easier. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo free.
