If your Samsung touchscreen stopped responding after a One UI 8.5 update, force-restart the phone, then test it without its case or screen protector. Check accessibility touch settings and dry the display before running Samsung Members diagnostics. The timing alone does not prove the update caused the problem: Samsung lists several other possible causes, and user reports do not establish how widespread the issue is or a universal fix.
What is known about One UI 8.5 touchscreen problems?
Galaxy owners have posted reports of wholly or intermittently unresponsive touchscreens after installing One UI 8.5. These include posts about a Galaxy Flip 5 and Galaxy M-series phones. Such reports confirm that users have described the problem, but they do not establish its prevalence or prove what caused any individual phone to fail (Samsung Community report, June 25, 2026; Flip 5 report, June 19, 2026; Samsung Members Community report, July 16, 2026).
Android Authority reported on September 10, 2026, that users had described lag and freezing touch input on Galaxy A07 4G and 5G models after One UI 8.5. Its article said the 5G model had received stability updates, while the cited changelog for the 4G model mentioned security improvements. It also said Samsung had not acknowledged the reported issue or confirmed a fix as of publication. That reporting concerns those A07 models and that date; it does not show that all A07 phones or Galaxy devices are affected (Android Authority, September 10, 2026).
Samsung’s general touchscreen guidance lists possible factors including temporary system errors, accessories, accessibility settings, and moisture. It is not a One UI 8.5-specific fix. The steps below start with reversible checks and move to diagnostics and service if the screen remains unresponsive.

Try these checks in order
1. Force-restart the phone
Hold the Side key and Volume down together for more than seven seconds, until the device restarts automatically. A temporary system error can interfere with normal touch response. If the screen works again, observe it during ordinary use; if it does not, continue with the checks below. Samsung notes that button and menu details can vary by model and software version.
2. Test without the case and screen protector
Temporarily remove the case and screen protector, then check whether touch input and gestures work. Samsung says accessories can affect touch sensitivity or gesture recognition. If you use a screen protector, you can also check Settings → Display → Touch sensitivity and turn on Touch sensitivity. The setting may not appear under exactly the same labels on every model or software version.

3. Check accessibility touch settings
Review accessibility options that change how taps, holds, or repeated touches are handled. Look for TalkBack, Settings → Accessibility → Interaction and dexterity, and the Magnification shortcut. Interaction and dexterity options can include touch-and-hold delay, tap duration, and ignore repeated touches; an unintended setting may make touch behavior seem unreliable. Names and paths can differ by device. If TalkBack is speaking instructions, use Samsung’s TalkBack navigation guidance rather than assuming ordinary taps will behave as usual.
4. Dry the display
If the screen is damp, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and test touch response again. Avoid treating a wet screen as evidence of a software fault.

5. Run the touchscreen diagnostic
If you can open the app, go to Samsung Members → Support → Get started → Touch screen, then follow the on-screen instructions. Samsung says this diagnostic is available on Galaxy devices with Samsung Members installed. If the screen will not respond enough to reach it, move to service assistance.

If the touchscreen remains unresponsive after these checks, use Samsung Members diagnostics if possible or contact a Samsung service centre. Samsung’s India support article, last updated August 23, 2026, directs users whose problem persists to diagnostics or a service centre. It is general guidance from Samsung India, and it cautions that instructions and menu layouts may vary by model and software version (Samsung India touchscreen troubleshooting).
