Samsung Electronics is named as the applicant on international publication WO/2024/150990, which describes a tablet-like device with a flexible display that expands along the same plane. The reported design can extend in either of two directions independently, or in both at once. It is a patent concept—not confirmation of a Samsung product, announcement, or planned launch.
What the Samsung patent describes
Gadgets 360’s July 23, 2024 report identifies WO/2024/150990 as a Samsung Electronics application and describes a tablet-shaped shell with a flexible display. Rather than opening like a book, the display is described as expanding outward along the plane of the tablet.
According to that report, the proposed mechanism uses guiding and driving units. It can expand in either of two directions separately, or extend in both directions simultaneously. The report does not provide verified screen dimensions, an expansion ratio, or evidence of how the mechanism performs in a working device. Read the Gadgets 360 report on WO/2024/150990.
How it differs conceptually from a foldable screen
The reported movement is a same-plane expansion: the tablet’s screen area grows outward rather than opening from a folded position. In the application passage quoted by Gadgets 360, Samsung’s discussion of foldable phones says that “users cannot feel free to choose the screen size according to their preferences”. The report presents the expandable design in that context, but there are no usability tests comparing it with foldable devices.

A patent is not a product announcement
WO/2024/150990 documents a proposed invention; by itself, it does not establish that Samsung has built a consumer device, announced one, or intends to sell one. Gadgets 360 explicitly cautions that the application may never result in a public product. The details here are those reported by Gadgets 360; the WIPO patent page was not independently inspected for this account.
Keep other Samsung display filings separate
Other Samsung flexible-display filings describe different concepts and should not be treated as extra features of WO/2024/150990. A separate U.S. application, US20240288910A1, describes a flexible display that expands as a slider is withdrawn and includes a support body. It belongs to another patent family, so its slider mechanism should not be attributed to WO/2024/150990. View US20240288910A1 on Google Patents.
