If Samsung Keyboard’s emoji button is missing, its suggestions have stopped, or old emojis remain in Recent, first identify which feature is affected: the toolbar, typing suggestions, and Recent list are separate. Check the keyboard and toolbar before resetting anything. Samsung documents broader keyboard reset and data-clearing options, but its reviewed support pages do not promise a control that deletes only Recent emoji history.
Identify what is missing or stuck
Open a text field and determine which symptom you have:
- Emoji button missing: the keyboard toolbar may be hidden or disabled, or a different keyboard may be active.
- Emoji suggestions missing: suggestions while typing are distinct from the emoji button and Recent list.
- Recent list empty: the list may have no visible history, even if the emoji control itself works.
- Old emojis will not disappear: Samsung’s reviewed official instructions do not identify a dedicated Recent-history-only deletion switch.
Samsung’s guidance applies to its default Samsung Keyboard; available screens can vary by device, software version, and region. Its Canada instructions specifically concern devices sold in Canada. Samsung Keyboard toolbar and settings guidance.
Restore a missing emoji button or toolbar
- Confirm Samsung Keyboard is active. Open a text field and check which keyboard appears; if you use another keyboard, Samsung Keyboard’s toolbar controls will not apply.
- On the keyboard, expand the toolbar if it is collapsed. The toolbar contains emoji and other tools.
- If the toolbar is disabled, open Samsung Keyboard settings and turn the toolbar on. You can access keyboard settings from the toolbar or from device Settings; menu names vary, so search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard” if needed.

Try the least disruptive keyboard fixes first
Clear Samsung Keyboard’s cache
In Samsung Keyboard settings, look under “Reset to default settings” for the cache-clearing option. Samsung lists clearing cache separately from resetting settings or erasing personalized predictions. It is the narrower reset to try before deleting app data. Samsung’s keyboard reset instructions.
Reset settings or erase learned personalization
The same reset area may offer separate choices to reset keyboard settings, erase personalized predictions, and erase personalized touch-recognition data. Choose only what matches the problem. Erasing personalized predictions also removes learned words. Samsung says resetting keyboard settings does not remove downloaded languages. Read the on-screen description before confirming.

Restart, then consider clearing app data
If the keyboard problem persists, Samsung’s troubleshooting sequence advises restarting the phone first. If that does not help, Samsung directs users to Samsung Keyboard’s storage settings and to delete its data; on some devices, you may need to show system apps to find it. Search Settings for Samsung Keyboard if the menu path differs. Clearing app data deletes learned keyboard data, so this is a broader step than clearing cache. Samsung Keyboard troubleshooting steps.
Clearing app data is not a guaranteed history-only fix. A third-party guide says it resets the Recent emoji list, but also describes the loss of preferences and personalization; Samsung’s cited instructions warn about learned data rather than promising that this will clear Recent emojis specifically. If emoji suggestions are still missing
Samsung Community moderator replies mention clearing keyboard cache or resetting keyboard settings. A later community reply also suggests clearing the messaging app’s cache, checking for software updates, or using Safe mode to look for interference from a third-party app. These are community troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes.
