A good internet connection does not guarantee that an app can deliver alerts promptly: your Galaxy may limit its background activity, or a notification setting may be suppressing the alert. Start by checking whether the affected app is allowed to notify and whether it has been put to sleep. Then test the other power, data, and notification settings below one at a time.
Why Galaxy notifications can be delayed despite a good connection
Samsung says apps in Sleeping apps may run in the background only occasionally, and their updates and notifications may be delayed. Apps in Deep sleeping apps do not run in the background; Samsung says their updates and notifications arrive only when you open the app.
Power-saving modes can also restrict background work. Samsung says Power saving restricts background apps from Wi-Fi and mobile data. Android Help says Battery Saver limits or turns off background activity, so network connections and apps may experience delays. A connection that works when you open an app therefore does not, by itself, rule out a background restriction.
Other possible settings to check include notification permission and categories, Do Not Disturb, Data Saver, and notification controls inside the app. These checks identify common settings-related causes, but they cannot establish the cause of every delay without details about the app, phone, software, and when the problem occurs.

Check settings in this order
After each relevant change, wait for or trigger a notification from the affected app and see whether it arrives promptly. Galaxy menu names and paths differ by model and software version; Samsung notes that its instructions can vary. If a path below does not match your phone, search Settings for the named feature.

Allow notifications for the app
Open Settings, find the affected app, and open its notification settings. Make sure notifications are allowed and the relevant notification categories are enabled. Also check notification controls inside the app itself: Samsung notes that some apps have additional settings there. See Samsung’s notification troubleshooting guidance.

Remove the app from sleep lists
In Settings, look under Battery or Device care for Background usage limits. If the affected app appears in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, remove it from that list. Where available, you can add an app that keeps getting put to sleep to Never auto sleeping apps. Availability and menu paths vary by model and software version. Samsung explains the sleep-list behavior in its Galaxy battery guidance and its US battery optimization guidance.
Allowing an app to remain active in the background can use more battery. Target the change to the app for which timely alerts matter rather than disabling battery management globally.

Test with power-saving modes off
Temporarily turn off Power saving on the Galaxy and, if enabled, Battery Saver in Android. Check whether alerts arrive on time, then decide whether the change is worth the battery tradeoff. Samsung documents the effect of Power saving on background Wi-Fi and mobile data; Android Help describes Battery Saver’s limits on background activity and possible delays.

Check Do Not Disturb and Data Saver
Confirm that Do Not Disturb is not silencing or filtering the alert, and check whether Data Saver is enabled. Samsung includes both among the settings to review when notifications are not working. Its notification troubleshooting page was last updated on 2025-05-12.

Update the app and phone software
Install available updates for the affected app and the Galaxy’s system software. Samsung includes app and software updates in its notification troubleshooting guidance. If the problem remains, Samsung also lists clearing the affected app’s cache as a further troubleshooting step; this is not a guaranteed fix.
If alerts are still late
At that point, the settings checks do not establish whether the remaining cause is the phone, the app, its service, or the particular network conditions. Before contacting the app’s support team or Samsung, note:

- Which app is affected and whether other apps notify normally.
- Your Galaxy model and Android and One UI versions.
- Whether the delay happens while the phone is idle, and whether it changes when you actively use the phone.
- Whether it happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or both.
These details can help narrow the problem without assuming that a delayed alert proves the internet connection is at fault—or that a Samsung setting is always the cause.
