Samsung announced the Galaxy Buds On on October 1, 2026, introducing the first clip-on model in its Galaxy Buds line. The open, around-the-ear earbuds leave the ear canal unblocked. Sales are scheduled to begin in South Korea on October 27 for KRW 299,000; Samsung has not announced dates or prices for other markets.
What are the Galaxy Buds On?
Galaxy Buds On are open-style wireless earbuds that clip around the ear rather than sitting inside the ear canal. Samsung describes them as a way to listen while staying more aware of nearby activity, including on walks and during outdoor exercise. That form factor is not unique to the wider earbud market: this is the first clip-on product in Samsung’s Galaxy Buds series.
Samsung says it studied different ear shapes and used simulations to position the speakers and battery. It also says the contact area and band elasticity are intended to spread pressure and keep the buds in place during larger movements. These are design claims; no independent fit or comfort testing is established.
When do the Galaxy Buds On go on sale, and how much do they cost?
Samsung’s October 1 announcement sets South Korean sales to start October 27, 2026. The announced version is black and costs KRW 299,000. As of October 4, the scheduled Korean launch was still in the future. Samsung says a phased global rollout will follow, but has not named other markets, dates or local prices. The Korean price should not be treated as an announced price for the United States or another region.

Samsung’s descriptions of bass, call clarity and noise reduction are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results. No independent listening tests, microphone measurements, durability findings or battery verification are established.
Can other people hear what you are listening to?
Possibly. The open design does not seal the ear canal, and Audio Leakage Reduction is not a promise of private listening. Samsung warns that some sound may escape depending on playback volume, ear shape and surrounding noise; leakage may be more noticeable in quiet places. Keep the volume moderate and avoid relying on these earbuds for private audio in shared spaces.

Which Galaxy AI and hands-free features need a Galaxy device?
Samsung says a connected Galaxy AI-supporting smartphone or tablet can enable Gemini Live, Quick Voice Memo, Bixby search of recordings, and head gestures for calls, alarms and message notifications. These features are conditional rather than universal phone capabilities.
Quick Voice Memo specifically requires a Galaxy AI-supported device with Samsung Voice Recorder and Bixby apps, plus separate setup of the earbuds’ long-press gesture. Samsung also says the buds connect to Galaxy phones or tablets when the case opens, and that volume and equalizer adjustments are available in phone settings and Quick Panel without installing a separate Galaxy Wearable app. That statement does not establish full compatibility across all Android phones or iPhones.

Why is Samsung entering the clip-on earbud category?
The launch arrives as open wireless stereo (OWS) earbuds gain share within the broader true wireless stereo market. Omdia’s September 17, 2026 estimates put 2Q 2026 OWS shipments at 11.1 million units, up 12% year over year, while conventional TWS shipments declined 2%. OWS represented 13.5% of TWS shipments, compared with 12.0% a year earlier; clip-on designs accounted for 61% of OWS shipments and ear-hook designs 39%.
Those are category shipment estimates, not evidence that all buyers prefer clip-ons or a forecast for Galaxy Buds On sales. Omdia forecasts annual OWS shipments rising from 43.9 million in 2026 to 90.5 million by 2030; that is a forecast, not an observed result. For buyers comparing open earbuds, the practical questions remain fit, sound and call quality, leakage, battery performance, device compatibility and local price—areas that require product-specific testing beyond shipment trends.
