Look for an app using an unusual amount of power or continuing to run in the background. The timing of a drain after an update does not, by itself, prove the update caused it.
1. Check the battery graph and app usage
Open Settings > Battery and inspect the graph alongside the list of apps using battery. On some Galaxy models or software versions, the relevant screen may be under Device care; menu names and locations vary. Follow the closest matching Battery or Device care screen on your phone. Samsung’s battery-drain guidance recommends reviewing detailed usage to identify apps consuming excessive power.
Note when the loss occurs: while the phone is idle, while using a particular app, or in a place with weak or unstable signal. Samsung lists unstable network conditions as one possible contributor to battery use. If one app stands out, check whether it has an update available in its official app store, review its background activity, or uninstall it if you no longer need it.
2. Review recent app activity and limit background use
Consider apps installed or updated around the time the drain began. If an app is rarely used, Samsung’s Sleeping or Deep sleeping options can restrict its background activity. Samsung says Deep sleeping apps do not run in the background and work only when opened manually. That can also delay background syncing or notifications, so avoid this setting for apps where timely updates matter.

3. Try reversible battery-saving steps
Restart the phone
If you have not restarted the Galaxy since the update, restart it and then check the battery graph and app usage again. Treat this as a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for update-related drain.
Run Device care optimization
On models with this option, open Device care > Optimize now. This is a low-risk housekeeping step; it may reduce unnecessary activity, but it does not identify the cause on its own.

Test Power saving mode
Turn on Power saving mode temporarily to see whether restricting background data for unused apps and disabling high-power features such as Always On Display improves runtime. Background restrictions can affect syncing and notifications. A better result while the mode is enabled shows that limiting activity helps, but does not establish which app or feature was responsible.
4. Check battery status in Samsung Members
Where available, open Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics and run the battery check. Samsung describes Phone Diagnostics as a self-diagnosis option; its availability and menu route can vary by device and software. For further details, see Samsung’s battery-condition guidance.

5. Know what post-update timing does—and does not—tell you
Samsung says battery use may temporarily rise while apps and services are being optimized during initial setup, and its Ireland support guidance says usage will normalize once that optimization is complete. That explanation concerns initial setup. It does not establish a universal settling period after software updates, show that an update caused a particular phone’s drain, or identify one firmware problem shared by Galaxy models.
Samsung’s general guidance identifies several possible contributors, including apps with excessive consumption and unstable network conditions. Without your exact model, One UI version, update build, region, and battery age, there is no single menu route or guaranteed fix that applies to every Galaxy.

6. When to contact Samsung or a service provider
Seek service advice if rapid battery loss continues after the app and background checks, the phone repeatedly shuts down unexpectedly, or it becomes unusually hot. Battery capacity naturally declines with repeated use, and noticeable loss of runtime or recurring shutdowns can warrant an evaluation; drain that began after an update alone is not a reason to assume the battery needs replacement. Samsung’s battery repair and replacement information explains that service eligibility depends on warranty conditions. Contact Samsung support or a local service provider to confirm available options for your region.
