Samsung’s 990 EVO Plus is available in capacities up to 4TB. For that largest model, Samsung rates sequential reads at up to 7,250 MB/s and sequential writes at up to 6,300 MB/s. Those are manufacturer specifications—not independently verified benchmark results—and actual performance can vary with the system and configuration.
What Samsung announced
Samsung announced the 990 EVO Plus on September 25, 2024, for laptop and desktop PC users. The M.2 2280 NVMe SSD line comes in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities. Samsung describes it as a storage option for gaming, business, and creative workloads, but the announcement does not establish how it performs in independent real-world testing.
The drive supports PCIe Gen 4.0 x4 or PCIe Gen 5.0 x2 and uses NVMe 2.0. Before buying, check your computer or motherboard documentation for a compatible M.2 slot, supported interface, and physical clearance. The M.2 2280 size alone does not confirm that a particular laptop or desktop can accommodate it.
990 EVO Plus 4TB speeds and Samsung’s claims
Samsung rates the 4TB version for sequential reads of up to 7,250 MB/s and sequential writes of up to 6,300 MB/s. Samsung also lists random performance of up to 1,050K read IOPS and 1,400K write IOPS, and says the drive achieves those figures without a DRAM cache.

Samsung says sequential read speeds are up to 50% higher than those of the previous 990 EVO, and claims 73% higher power efficiency than its predecessor. These are Samsung’s comparisons, not conclusions from an independent head-to-head test. Its announcement says the measurements used IOmeter 1.1.0 on a specified Windows 11 test system and cautions that results can vary with firmware, system hardware, and configuration. Endurance, warranty, and launch pricing
For the 4TB drive, Samsung lists an endurance rating of 2,400 TBW (terabytes written) and a five-year limited warranty. The warranty ends at five years or when the applicable total-bytes-written limit is reached, whichever comes first; consult the warranty terms for the conditions that apply to your purchase.

- Confirm that your system supports an M.2 2280 NVMe drive and the listed PCIe interface configuration.
- Check the manufacturer’s installation guidance and your device’s clearance requirements. Heatsink needs and included mounting hardware depend on the system; the drive’s form factor does not settle either question.
- If migrating data or managing the drive, Samsung says its Magician software supports data migration, drive-health monitoring, and performance optimization for Samsung SSDs.
