The “Salesforce To Buy Informatica: 5 Things To Know” story is now a completed acquisition: Salesforce announced the deal on May 27, 2025, and closed it on November 18, 2025. Salesforce paid $25 in cash per Informatica share, in a transaction publicly described as approximately $8 billion in equity value.
Key takeaways
- Salesforce completed its Informatica acquisition on November 18, 2025, making Informatica a wholly owned subsidiary and ending its public trading.
- The legal merger consideration was $25 in cash per Informatica Class A and Class B-1 common share; public reporting described the transaction as approximately $8 billion in equity value.
- Salesforce acquired enterprise data-management capabilities covering integration, data quality, cataloging, metadata, governance, privacy and master data management—not simply another AI chatbot.
- The strategic target is a stronger connection between Informatica, Data 360, Agentforce 360 and MuleSoft so enterprise AI can use more connected and governed data.
- Customers should expect continuity and gradual integration rather than an automatic migration, immediate product replacement or universal pricing change.
What happened in the Salesforce To Buy Informatica deal?
Salesforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire Informatica on May 27, 2025, then completed the transaction on November 18, 2025. After closing, Informatica became a wholly owned Salesforce subsidiary and its shares ceased to be publicly traded. The original expectation of a closing in Salesforce fiscal 2026 or early fiscal 2027 is therefore obsolete.
The merger consideration was $25 in cash for each share of Informatica Class A and Class B-1 common stock, according to Informatica’s SEC filing describing the merger terms. News coverage described the transaction as approximately $8 billion in equity value; that figure should not be confused with the precise legal share consideration.
| Milestone | Date or detail | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Definitive agreement announced | May 27, 2025 | Salesforce proposed acquiring Informatica. |
| Transaction completed | November 18, 2025 | Informatica became wholly owned by Salesforce. |
| Cash consideration | $25 per share | Applied to Informatica Class A and Class B-1 common stock. |
| Public-company status | Ended after closing | Informatica shares stopped trading publicly. |
| Publicly reported equity value | Approximately $8 billion | A rounded description of the deal’s equity value, not a replacement for the merger terms. |
1. What did Salesforce actually acquire?
Salesforce acquired Informatica’s enterprise cloud data-management portfolio. Informatica’s value in this transaction is primarily its ability to connect, understand, clean, govern and manage data across complicated enterprise environments.

- API and application integration: Connecting systems and exposing data or processes to other applications.
- Data quality and observability: Profiling, validating, cleansing and monitoring data so organizations can identify errors and exceptions.
- Data catalog and metadata management: Helping people and software discover data assets, understand their meaning and trace where information came from.
- Master data management: Creating consistent, governed records for domains such as customers, products, suppliers and reference data.
- Governance, access and privacy: Applying policies around who can use data, how data is protected and how organizations meet regulatory requirements.
- Customer and Business 360 applications: Creating broader views of important business entities across systems.
- Data marketplace and reusable data services: Making governed data available to users, applications and automated workflows.
Informatica therefore should not be described simply as an AI company. Its strategic role is closer to enterprise data plumbing and control: the layer between source systems and the applications, analytics tools or AI agents that depend on reliable information. The SEC filing’s description of Informatica’s products and business supports that broader characterization.
2. Why did Salesforce want Informatica?
Salesforce wanted deeper enterprise data-management capabilities to support trusted AI. Salesforce already had CRM data, Data 360, MuleSoft and Agentforce; Informatica added tools for data estates that span Salesforce and many other vendors, clouds, databases and legacy systems.
The strategic logic has four parts:
- AI agents need context. An agent that acts on incomplete, duplicated or outdated records can make an unreliable recommendation or take an inappropriate action.
- Data quality is a platform opportunity. Salesforce can potentially sell data preparation, governance, identity resolution and activation alongside CRM and AI products.
- Informatica expands Salesforce beyond CRM. Informatica addresses heterogeneous environments that may include AWS, Microsoft, Google Cloud, Databricks, Snowflake, enterprise resource planning systems and older on-premises systems.
- Platform consolidation becomes more plausible. Some organizations may prefer one strategic supplier for customer data, integration, governance, master data and AI-agent execution.
Salesforce’s own rationale is that AI requires connected and trusted enterprise data. The acquisition does not prove that every AI output will become accurate, however. Clean data cannot compensate for weak permissions, incomplete metadata, ambiguous business rules, poor retrieval, weak human oversight or an agent that is allowed to take an irreversible action without approval.
Salesforce also identified integration, retention, regulatory, accounting and execution risks in its original acquisition announcement. Those risks matter because the strategic thesis depends on combining products and organizations, not merely owning them.
3. How do Informatica, MuleSoft, Data 360 and Agentforce fit together?
The four product areas have related but different jobs. Informatica is primarily the enterprise data-management layer; MuleSoft connects applications and APIs; Data 360 activates unified data within Salesforce; and Agentforce creates and runs AI-agent experiences and actions.
| Product or capability | Primary role | Where it fits in the data-to-AI chain |
|---|---|---|
| Informatica | Integration, data quality, cataloging, metadata, governance, privacy and MDM across heterogeneous systems. | Connects and governs source data before downstream use. |
| MuleSoft | API, application and integration workflows. | Connects applications and makes processes or data reusable. |
| Data 360 | Salesforce-centered customer and enterprise data activation. | Brings governed information into Salesforce contexts and workflows. |
| Agentforce 360 | AI-agent creation and execution. | Uses available context and permissions to recommend or perform actions. |
A useful conceptual chain is:
Source systems → integration → data quality → identity and MDM → governance and permissions → Data 360 → Agentforce actions

- Flip-up Arms for Space Saving – Padded flip-up arms to fit under desks or save space, providing comfort and flexibility in compact areas.
- Adjustable Comfort – Customizable seat height, tilt tension, and 360-degree swivel that allow smooth movement and a personalized setup for various spaces.

- Certified for Safety – Built with SGS certified gaslift, tested for long-term durability, and FSC-certified wood frame to add reliable internal support.
A weakness at any stage can reduce the value of the layer above it. A master data platform may establish a governed golden record, but the customer still needs identity-resolution rules, data stewardship, source-system ownership, survivorship logic and continuing governance. Salesforce describes Informatica’s technology as supporting Data 360, Agentforce 360 and MuleSoft integration, but those stated integration targets should not be mistaken for a guarantee that every customer will receive one automatically unified record.

Salesforce’s product direction centers on using Informatica’s data-quality, governance, metadata and MDM capabilities to strengthen Data 360 and Agentforce, while MuleSoft handles important application and API connectivity.
Salesforce identifies the following areas for ongoing integration:
- Data integration.
- Data governance.
- Access and privacy.
- Data cataloging.
- Data quality.
- Master data management.
- Metadata management.
Salesforce’s product page also describes Headless IDMC as being in private preview and lists general availability as planned for summer 2026. The available source does not independently confirm that general availability occurred, so Headless IDMC should not be described as generally available without a later release announcement. Product availability may also vary by contract, edition and geography.
“Integration” can mean several different things, and the distinctions matter:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Type of integration | Meaning | Why timing matters |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial | Sales, contracting, billing or account relationships become more closely connected. | A shared vendor relationship does not necessarily mean shared licensing. |
| Technical | Connectors, APIs, metadata or data services work together. | Technical interoperability can arrive before products share a common interface. |
| Product | Informatica capabilities appear inside Salesforce products. | Embedded features may be limited to particular editions or new plans. |
| Operational | Support, security, service delivery and processes are combined. | Operational changes can affect escalation paths and administration. |
| Strategic | Salesforce positions itself as a control point for enterprise data and AI. | A strategic message is not the same as a delivered feature. |
5. What changes for Informatica and Salesforce customers?
Customers should expect product continuity first and gradual integration over time. The acquisition does not establish that every Informatica product has been replaced, that every Informatica customer must migrate, or that Salesforce customers automatically receive the full Informatica portfolio.

What customers can reasonably assume
- Informatica operates as part of Salesforce after the November 18, 2025 closing.
- Salesforce intends to integrate Informatica technology into its platform.
- Existing Informatica data-management solutions and partner integrations are intended to continue receiving support, subject to the customer’s agreements and published product policies.
- Existing contracts should not be treated as automatically terminated or replaced solely because ownership changed.
- Products remain enterprise offerings with potentially complex subscription, capacity and usage dimensions.
What customers should not assume
- Every Informatica product is now a Salesforce product with identical packaging.
- Existing Informatica customers must immediately move their data or workflows into Salesforce.
- Every Salesforce edition includes all Informatica capabilities.
- Existing prices, renewal terms or support arrangements have been harmonized.
- A single customer record appears without implementation, matching, stewardship and governance work.
- Every Informatica integration with non-Salesforce platforms will be deprioritized or discontinued.
Customers should obtain answers in writing for their specific products and contracts. The practical questions include which products remain standalone, which features will be embedded into Data 360 or Agentforce, whether new Salesforce licenses or consumption credits are required, how mixed-environment support works, and how Salesforce will support customers that use Informatica with competing CRM, cloud or data platforms.
How much does Informatica from Salesforce cost?
There is no simple public price card in the supplied product material. The Informatica from Salesforce cloud and product description schedule effective June 5, 2026 describes commercial dimensions including records, named users, business users, IPUs, connectors, sandboxes, production environments and other capacity measures. Buyers should request a quote and model total ownership cost rather than comparing only subscription prices.
A serious three-year estimate should include:
- Base licenses for Informatica, Data 360, MuleSoft or Agentforce where applicable.
- Records, users, IPUs, connectors, transactions or other consumption charges.
- Sandbox, development, testing and production environments.
- Data migration, identity resolution, matching and MDM implementation.
- Data stewardship, governance and ongoing administration.
- Support, training and integration maintenance.
- Potential costs for retaining existing Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud, Databricks or Snowflake services.
Pricing may differ by product, contract, capacity, region and negotiation. The acquisition alone does not establish that prices will rise or remain unchanged.

What are the main advantages and risks?
| Potential advantage | Potential trade-off or risk |
|---|---|
| Fewer strategic vendors for Salesforce-centered organizations. | Greater dependence on Salesforce and potentially less negotiating leverage. |
| Stronger connection between governed data and CRM workflows. | Product overlap among Informatica, MuleSoft and Data 360 may complicate architecture and licensing. |
| More mature enterprise data-management capabilities than a CRM-only stack. | Implementation may require substantial data stewardship and transformation work. |
| Better support for hybrid and multi-cloud environments. | Customers may prefer a neutral data layer that is not commercially tied to Salesforce. |
| Potentially easier activation of trusted data in AI-agent workflows. | Better data cannot guarantee accurate AI behavior or eliminate governance failures. |
| A broader platform for customer, product or supplier records. | Migration, reimplementation and data-residency requirements can increase project risk. |
Informatica customers may also worry about roadmap priorities if Salesforce emphasizes its own Data 360 and Agentforce products. Salesforce customers may worry about paying for overlapping integration or data services. Both groups should separate announced direction from generally available functionality.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Informatica from Salesforce the right choice for every buyer?
No. Informatica from Salesforce is most compelling for organizations that need mature data management across many systems and already have a substantial Salesforce investment. A buyer with a small number of sources, basic ETL needs or a strong preference for platform neutrality may be better served by a narrower or cloud-native alternative.
| Buyer situation | Potentially relevant option | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Complex multi-system estate with Salesforce as a strategic platform | Informatica from Salesforce | Evaluate MDM, governance, connectors, implementation effort and total capacity costs. |
| Salesforce-centered customer data activation and application integration | Data 360 plus MuleSoft | May be more focused than a broad enterprise MDM program, but compare overlapping capabilities. |
| Organization deeply committed to Microsoft and Azure | Microsoft Fabric or Azure Data Factory | Compare existing Microsoft commitments, identity, governance and capacity pricing. |
| AWS-native data estate | AWS Glue | Strong for AWS-native integration, cataloging and ETL, but not a one-for-one replacement for every Informatica MDM or governance capability. |
| Analytics, lakehouse or warehouse-centered architecture | Databricks or Snowflake | Additional data-quality, governance or MDM tools may still be required. |
| Google Cloud-centered environment | Google Cloud Dataplex | Compare Google Cloud usage and enterprise pricing with the requirements of the data estate. |
Alternatives are not interchangeable products. Microsoft Fabric, AWS Glue, Google Cloud Dataplex, Databricks and Snowflake may fit particular cloud or analytics architectures, while Informatica’s broader portfolio addresses integration, quality, governance and MDM together. The right comparison depends on data sources, latency, compliance, stewardship capacity, existing investments and the desired degree of vendor consolidation.

It maintains its shape and cushioning far longer, preventing the “bottoming out” discomfort common at this price point
- Adjustable Lumbar, Not a Fixed Afterthought – Unlike flimsy plastic supports that crack or lose tension, this chair features a durable lumbar mechanism that adjusts depth to match your spine’s natural curve. Genuinely relieves lower back pressure during long sitting sessions
- Breathable Mesh Backrest – No Peeling, No Heat Buildup – Say goodbye to flaking faux leather. The high-tension mesh back promotes continuous airflow, keeping you cool in warm environments and eliminating the mess of peeling upholstery. Mesh holds up significantly better over time and looks professional years later
- Anti-Sink BIFMA Certified Gas Cylinder – A common failure in budget chairs: the pneumatic cylinder loses pressure and slowly sinks during use. Our Class 3 BIFMA-certified gas lift is built to hold its height reliably, so your chair stays exactly where you set it—year after year. No more sudden drops or mid-work adjustments
- Heavy-Duty Metal Core Base (330 lbs Capacity) – Thin plastic bases can crack under stress, especially near the cylinder hub. We use a reinforced nylon base with a metal core, providing the durability and peace of mind you need.
