The New Orleans Saints signed wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr. from their practice squad to the active roster on October 1, 2026. It was a full roster signing, not a game-day elevation.
What changed on October 1
The Saints announced the signing on October 1, with Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis named in the club’s announcement. The NFL’s league transaction list also records Austin as a Saints free-agent signing that day.
Austin had been on New Orleans’ practice squad. Signing him to the active roster changed his roster status; it was distinct from a temporary elevation to dress for a particular game.
How the signing differs from his September elevation
| Date | Transaction | Context |
|---|---|---|
| September 26, 2026 | Standard game-day elevation from the practice squad | Week 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders |
| October 1, 2026 | Signed from the practice squad to the active roster | Roster signing; the announcement does not identify it as a game-day elevation |
The September move was described by the Saints as a standard elevation for the Raiders game. The October 1 transaction was a signing to the active roster, rather than another one-game elevation.
