The report says the change is expected to begin in the Saints’ Monday game against Atlanta, but it does not project Kamara’s carries, targets, or share of the workload.
What changes in the Saints’ backfield
Etienne reportedly aggravated his hamstring during New Orleans’ Week 3 loss to the Raiders and was placed on injured reserve. CBS Sports/RotoWire does not give a return date. Its October 2 report says Kamara is expected to lead the backfield for as long as Etienne is unavailable.
The report also expects Kendre Miller to see more snaps behind Kamara. C.J. Donaldson, Zamir White, and Ulysses Bentley are mentioned as possible contributors, but their specific roles and the workload split are not established. CBS Sports/RotoWire’s report describes expectations, not a guaranteed depth-chart order or touch projection.
What that means for Kamara’s workload
Kamara is the expected lead back, but “top back” does not tell fantasy managers how many opportunities he will receive. The report provides no projected carries, receptions, targets, snaps, or percentage share. Any precise workload forecast would go beyond the available information.

For lineup decisions, treat the role change as a reason to reassess Kamara’s outlook—not as proof of a particular fantasy point total. Check the Saints’ game-week updates and active status close to kickoff, since injury availability and roles can change.
Pre-injury context: the Saints planned to use both backs
Before Etienne’s injury, New Orleans described Kamara and Etienne as players who could be used in different situations. At the NFL owners meetings on March 30, 2026, coach Kellen Moore called the backfield “a great situation for us,” according to the Saints’ official report. That was an offseason view of a two-back group, not a post-injury workload update.

Kamara’s 2025 production in context
The Saints reported that Kamara played 11 games in 2025 and recorded 471 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, 33 receptions, 186 receiving yards, and no receiving touchdowns. The team characterized each of those figures as a career low in the corresponding category.
