Start with music whose license explicitly covers the platform and the way you plan to use it—not just music labeled “royalty-free.” For a clear no-cost example, StreamBeats publishes a license for covered tracks on Twitch, YouTube, podcasts, and equivalent platforms. Read its restrictions and keep a copy of the license. A subscription or download alone does not establish that you can broadcast a track.

What “royalty-free” means for a livestream

“Royalty-free” does not mean copyright-free, free for every use, or automatically cleared on every platform. It describes a licensing arrangement; the actual permission depends on the license terms. Before playing music, confirm that the license covers your platform, territory, live broadcast, monetization, and any recording you keep or publish afterward.

YouTube puts responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary music rights for livestream content worldwide. Its livestream terms specifically include music licensing rights. Twitch likewise says streamers are responsible for ensuring they have rights to livestream or store copyrighted material, and warns that a license may not cover the particular way music is used on Twitch. Review Twitch’s copyright guidance and current rules before broadcasting.

Where to find music licensed for live streaming

StreamBeats: a clearly scoped no-cost example

StreamBeats, published by Senpai Records, LLC, offers a license that it describes as “gratis, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-transferable, and perpetual.” Its posted license permits syncing covered tracks with video on Twitch, YouTube, podcasts, or equivalent platforms; it allows monetization and does not require credit. Check the full current license and its specific limitations before using a track.

The license is not permission for every use of the music. It restricts, among other things, standalone redistribution, reuploads to music platforms, music-only radio, and derivatives. Games, movies, and television require separate licensing. StreamBeats also says false YouTube Content ID claims can occur and provides a reporting process. Save the license and track details, and follow the publisher’s current steps if a claim appears.

Twitch’s official music options page

Twitch’s Music Options for Streamers page lists options including Chillhop, NCS, and StreamBeats. Treat the page as a place to investigate, not as blanket proof that any particular track or subscription covers your use. Check the provider’s current license for livestreams, VODs, monetization, geography, and off-platform use.

YouTube Creator Music

YouTube Creator Music is not a general clearance shortcut for livestreams. Its help page describes music for videos and access for U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators; it does not establish a general livestream license. Confirm each track’s displayed usage details and platform scope before use. The page says paid licenses are being phased out beginning August 2026, with August 10, 2026 stated as the paid-license cutoff; the remaining model focuses on no-cost and revenue-sharing tracks.

Paid libraries: verify today’s plan and track terms

A November 11, 2020 Twitch blog post named Soundstripe, Monstercat Gold, Chillhop, Epidemic Sound, and NCS as rights-cleared alternatives at that time. That is a historical starting list, not confirmation of current availability, endorsement, or plan scope. If considering a paid library, check its current plan and the individual track’s terms for live use, archives, monetization, territory, and use outside the streaming platform.

Check these license details before going live

Check What to confirm
Platform and territory Does permission cover the exact service and the territories where the stream is available? YouTube requires rights for use on its services worldwide; Twitch’s music guidance also raises global-scope concerns.
Live versus saved versions Is the license for a live performance only, or does it also cover the VOD, archive, clips, and later uploads? A live-use grant may not include recordings.
Monetization Check whether ads, subscriptions, sponsorships, and other monetized uses are permitted. StreamBeats explicitly allows monetization within its license scope.
Attribution and duration Find out whether credit is required and when permission expires. StreamBeats says attribution is not required and its license is perpetual, within the stated scope.
Track and redistribution restrictions Look for restrictions on remixes, samples, standalone redistribution, reuploads, or uses outside the covered creator context.
Claims and dispute process Automated systems can flag music even when you believe you have permission. Keep the license and track information, and know how the licensor asks you to report or dispute a claim.

Can you use Spotify music on Twitch?

A Spotify subscription or purchased download does not by itself grant permission to broadcast a track on Twitch. Twitch’s DJ Program FAQ explains that a music-rights agreement may not cover the way music is used on Twitch and may not cover global streaming. Use a track only when you have permission that explicitly fits your broadcast and any saved version.

Will stream music stay in your VOD?

That depends on both the platform’s handling of the broadcast and the rights you hold. A license for live playback does not automatically establish rights to store, clip, or republish the recording. Before enabling archives or making clips, check the license for those uses separately; YouTube’s livestream terms address live content and archived content, and Twitch’s guidance makes streamers responsible for rights to store copyrighted material.

Why a music license may not prevent a claim

Permission and automated claim detection are different things. StreamBeats notes that false YouTube Content ID claims can occur, so keep the track name and license details with your production records. If a claim appears, use the licensor’s current reporting process and follow the platform’s dispute procedure; do not assume that the word “royalty-free” alone resolves it.
