SES says Royal Brunei Airlines has completed installing its RB SkyConnect satellite Wi-Fi system across the airline’s A320 fleet, with service available on all of its A320 aircraft in operation across Asia-Pacific. The 1 October 2026 announcement confirms the rollout, but does not say what passengers pay or provide measured speeds or other independent performance results.
What the rollout announcement confirms
SES announced on 1 October 2026 that installation of RB SkyConnect was complete across Royal Brunei’s A320 fleet. SES says the service is available on all Royal Brunei A320 aircraft in operation across the Asia-Pacific region. That is a statement about aircraft in operation, not a guarantee that Wi-Fi will be active on every individual scheduled flight.
The announcement identifies Royal Brunei’s Airbus A320neo fleet as the aircraft covered. The SES release’s company information lists Royal Brunei’s fleet as five Boeing 787-8s and seven Airbus A320NEOs; it does not say the 787s are part of this installation. SES’s rollout announcement
How RB SkyConnect works
SES describes RB SkyConnect as a multi-orbit satellite system combining geostationary (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) links. An electronically steered array (ESA) antenna dynamically connects to what SES calls the strongest available network. In broad terms, GEO and LEO refer to satellites operating in different orbits; the announcement does not publish a comparative speed, latency, or cost for either link.

SES characterizes the system as providing stable, uninterrupted connectivity across Royal Brunei’s route network and served territories, including China and India. This is the provider’s description, not an independently reported uptime result or passenger service test.
Why the earlier announcement named Intelsat
On 3 June 2025, Royal Brunei announced that Intelsat had been selected to provide multi-orbit inflight connectivity for its A320neo fleet, with installation expected to begin in Q4 2025. That announcement described a planned ESA antenna less than seven centimeters tall and a system designed to connect to GEO and LEO satellites. Those were details of the planned system, not measurements of passenger service after rollout. Royal Brunei’s 2025 Intelsat announcement

The 2025 release names Intelsat, while the 2026 completion release names SES and RB SkyConnect. The two announcements establish that chronology, but do not explain the contractual or corporate transition behind the different names; they are not enough to conclude that the airline changed suppliers.

Neither official announcement gives passenger pricing, whether access is free or paid, data allowances, supported apps, device restrictions, or whether Wi-Fi is activated on a particular flight. The SES release quotes Royal Brunei CEO Colonel Norsuriati binti Haji Sharbini describing the installation as a milestone in improving the guest experience, and SES Senior Vice President Aviation Blane Boynton calling it a demonstration of the speed and scalability of SES’s inflight connectivity solutions. These are company statements, not independent evaluations. Boynton also said five additional APAC airlines would install SES’s system by the end of 2027; that is a forecast, not a completed deployment count.
