Round Forest Drive, the road connecting Mountain Brook and Irondale, is reported to remain open with new security measures. The October 3, 2026 report available publicly does not identify those measures or explain the decision, so their details should not be treated as confirmed.
What is happening on Round Forest Drive?
Round Forest Drive is a connection between Mountain Brook and Irondale. An October 3, 2026 KhanList headline and excerpt report that it will stay open with new security measures, but do not name the measures or say which city or agency will implement them. KhanList
That reported outcome follows months of discussion over residents’ requests to close the connection and restore a cul-de-sac. No accessible account of the October 3 announcement establishes the measures, their timing, or the rationale for choosing them over closure.
Why did residents ask for the road to close?
At a July 27, 2026 Mountain Brook City Council meeting, residents raised concerns about trespassing, drug activity, and other criminal behavior around Round Forest Drive and Round Forest Circle. They also described cut-through traffic and asked the city to consider returning the road to a cul-de-sac. These are residents’ concerns as reported at the meeting, not independently verified findings about crime or traffic. ABC 33/40

Mountain Brook Mayor Graham Smith said the concerns were real and warranted study. He also cautioned that closing a road was not a simple decision and should be justified by evidence. Irondale Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. opposed closing a through road, arguing that cutting it off would not necessarily prevent another incident. The competing positions put residents’ security concerns alongside questions about traffic, policing, and access.
What did Mountain Brook study?
On August 24, 2026, Mountain Brook authorized Skipper Consulting to conduct a traffic study for $8,950, according to Village Living Online’s report the following day. The council action authorized the study; the reviewed reports do not give its findings, a final vehicle count, or a crime-rate analysis. Village Living Online

Earlier, ABC 33/40 reported that a traffic count was underway and that Mountain Brook Police Chief Thomas Boulware was developing alternatives. Mayor Smith said the city was communicating with Irondale. At that point, Mountain Brook had not decided to close the road. Officials also identified police coordination and the potential effect on fire and emergency access as considerations. ABC 33/40
How did Irondale respond?
At a Mountain Brook work session attended by Irondale Mayor James Stewart, reported September 6, Stewart argued against closing the connection prematurely. He said the police chiefs should coordinate if the underlying problem was policing. His position reflects Irondale’s interest in keeping a through road open; it does not establish what security measures the cities have now agreed to adopt. Village Living Online

- NIGHT VISION THAT ACTUALLY WORKS - F1.8 APERTURE & 8-LAYER LENS - The F1.8 large aperture pulls in more light than standard f2.0 lenses, and the 8-layer glass lens reduces glare from headlights and streetlights. Combined with WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) technology, this dash cam delivers usable footage in low-light conditions - so you can read license plates at dawn, dusk, and in urban nighttime driving.
- SEAMLESS LOOP RECORDING & COLLISION PROTECTION - G-SENSOR INCLUDED - Loop recording automatically overwrites the oldest footage when the card is full, so you never have to manage files manually. When the built-in G-sensor detects sudden impact or braking, it locks that clip and protects it from being overwritten. Runs off your car cigarette lighter port right out of the box.
- IMPORTANT: PARKING MODE REQUIRES SEPARATE HARWIRE KIT (SOLD SEPARATELY) -This dash cam includes parking monitor capability, but 24/7 parked recording requires an optional hardwire kit (not included) connected to your vehicle fuse box. Without it, the camera turns off when your engine does - just like almost every dash cam in this price range.
