If Roblox Shift Lock does nothing when you press Shift, first check whether the experience supports mouse lock. Roblox documents Shift as the mouse-and-keyboard toggle, but the experience must enable the feature; a player-side setting cannot turn it on in a game that has disabled it.
Check whether the experience supports Shift Lock
Roblox’s Creator documentation for StarterPlayer.EnableMouseLockOption says the Shift mouse-lock toggle applies when the experience enables that option. In other words, Shift Lock availability can vary by experience. If the game’s developer has turned the option off, there is no player setting that can force it on.
If the experience provides its own settings or instructions, check those too. But first determine whether the issue is limited to this game or appears elsewhere.
Test Shift Lock in another experience
- Join a different Roblox experience that you know supports mouse lock.
- Use a keyboard and mouse, then press Shift and see whether the camera and character alignment changes.
- Compare the result with the experience where Shift Lock failed.
If it works in the other experience, that points to an experience-specific setting or implementation rather than proving a Roblox-wide problem. This is a diagnostic clue, not a guarantee: experiences can configure controls differently.

Use a keyboard and mouse as the active input
Roblox’s default input bindings documentation lists mouse lock for mouse and keyboard, and does not list a gamepad binding for it. Test with a keyboard and mouse as the active input rather than relying on a controller or touchscreen.
If you are also using a controller
A Roblox Developer Forum result describes mouse lock deactivating when controller input is used and quotes a Roblox staff response characterizing Shift Lock as a mouse-and-keyboard feature. Try disconnecting the controller and testing again. That report concerns mixed input; it does not establish that every controller or game causes the same behavior. Read the forum discussion.

If you are on a touchscreen laptop
A separate Developer Forum report describes a touchscreen laptop where older experiences using TouchEnabled showed mobile controls. The original poster said disabling the touchscreen and restarting Roblox changed the behavior. Treat this as one user-reported case, not a confirmed general fix or a universal explanation for Shift Lock problems. Read the forum discussion.
Use general app troubleshooting only if Roblox has broader problems
If Roblox is freezing, failing to load, or misbehaving beyond Shift Lock, app troubleshooting may be appropriate. Roblox Support’s iOS app troubleshooting guide recommends steps such as ensuring the app is current, force closing it, restarting the device, reinstalling the app, or clearing cookies. These are general iOS app steps; Roblox does not present them as Shift Lock-specific fixes.

What the evidence says about the control
Roblox’s Creator documentation notes that its default input bindings cover movement, camera control, and basic environment interaction, and advises overriding them only in specific cases. The practical takeaway is that the expected Shift behavior depends both on using the documented input and on how the experience is configured. Forum reports can suggest situations worth testing, but do not establish a platform-wide defect.
