Rivian has not reported an R2-specific sales record or an R2-only delivery total in the cited 2026 materials. Its reported 12,194 deliveries in Q2 2026 cover the company’s entire vehicle lineup—not just the R2. Rivian began external R2 deliveries on June 9, 2026, but that milestone does not establish how many R2s were sold or how long every reservation holder will wait.
Are Rivian R2 sales actually a record?
No R2 sales record is established by the cited official figures. In its Q2 2026 results, Rivian reported 12,194 vehicles delivered across its lineup. The company also said external R2 deliveries began June 9, 2026. Those are separate facts: the 12,194 figure is not an R2 sales or delivery total.
The same results release described 57,000 demo drives as a company record. Demo drives are not sales, orders, or deliveries, and the figure does not establish an R2 sales record. Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe said the company began external R2 deliveries during the quarter, but the cited release did not give an R2-specific total.

There is no single reservation-to-delivery wait published in the cited guidance. Rivian’s process has several distinct stages, and its August 7, 2026 R2 ownership guide says most customers take 4–8 weeks after confirming a build to receive their vehicle. This is a general estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date.

When will a reservation turn into an order invitation?
Rivian says reservation timestamp and delivery location are the primary factors in invitation timing. Its May 27, 2026 launch announcement also notes that customers near Rivian Service + Demo Centers generally receive invitations sooner during the early ramp. R1 ownership, expiring leases, and randomized early batches are additional considerations mentioned by the company; they do not amount to a guaranteed priority or date.
Your Rivian Account is the place to check the estimated invitation window. An invitation is an opportunity to proceed with an order, not confirmation of a build or a delivery appointment.

Which R2 versions are arriving first?
Rivian’s May 27 announcement said Performance with Launch Package would be first to order. The company expected Premium to arrive in late 2026 and Standard in 2027. These are Rivian’s announced expectations, and the schedule may change.
Why Rivian’s delivery estimates changed
Rivian’s May 27 launch announcement gave an earlier estimate of 2–6 weeks after order confirmation. Its later August 7 ownership guide says most customers should expect 4–8 weeks after confirming a build. For current planning, the newer 4–8-week guidance is the relevant estimate; it remains a general range and does not provide a total reservation-to-delivery timeline.
