What Riverbed announced in April 2025
The expansion brought generative, predictive and agentic functions into the Riverbed Platform rather than treating AI as a separate add-on. Riverbed’s architecture uses the Riverbed Data Store to collect and correlate telemetry, then applies IQ Ops to that shared data.
- IQ Assist: Generates context-rich explanations, graphical root-cause views and suggested remediations. It can pass work into ServiceNow workflows.
- Predictive AI in IQ Ops: Examines real-time and historical telemetry to identify developing risks, including resource strain and latency spikes, before they become service disruptions.
- Agentic AI: Lets teams configure task-specific agents that use the Riverbed Data Store and IQ Ops. Riverbed describes human oversight as part of the operating model.
- New data-observability modules: Extend the platform’s ability to collect, correlate and use telemetry across environments.
Riverbed CEO Dave Donatelli described the motivation as customers wanting to consolidate observability tools, deploy AI that demonstrates return on investment and feed enterprise data repositories.
How the three AI modes differ

These categories are complementary, not interchangeable. Predictive AI forecasts risk, generative AI explains evidence and proposes a response, and agentic AI performs a defined sequence under the controls an organization sets.

What IQ Assist does and whether it is available
Riverbed’s April 8, 2025 release listed the announced solutions as generally available except for Agentic AI and NPM+ Packet Capture. IQ Assist therefore was presented as available at launch, with ServiceNow integration explicitly named. The same release targeted Agentic AI for Q2 2025 and NPM+ Packet Capture for the second half of 2025.
IQ Assist is intended to shorten the path from an alert to an explainable diagnosis. Its graphical root-cause views show how Riverbed is connecting evidence, while its suggested remediations give the operator a starting point rather than an unexplained score. At The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, ICT support officer Zeno Tadjine said the organization had begun using IQ Assist at the service-desk level for troubleshooting.
The availability statement is tied to Riverbed’s April 2025 announcement. Riverbed’s later September 2026 Network 360 announcement confirms broader IQ and Q integration, but it does not restate a separate availability status for every 2025 module.

How Riverbed handles observability data
Riverbed Data Store and IQ Ops
Riverbed positions the Data Store as the collection and correlation foundation. IQ Ops applies the platform’s AI to that combined evidence, allowing the same underlying telemetry to support explanation, prediction and configured automation instead of forcing each function to operate on an isolated data set.
Smart OTel
Smart OTel is Riverbed’s filtering and export layer. It selects high-value telemetry instead of forwarding indiscriminate raw streams to standard OpenTelemetry collectors. Riverbed also says it can convert third-party data into OpenTelemetry-compliant insights. The practical trade-off is that teams must define which information is valuable enough to retain or export, while avoiding the cost and noise of sending everything.
What changed with Network 360 in September 2026
On September 16, 2026, Riverbed announced Network 360 offerings with Riverbed IQ and Riverbed Q natively integrated into AppResponse and NetProfiler.

This update connects the earlier AI architecture to specific network-performance products: AppResponse and NetProfiler supply network evidence, IQ supplies analysis and Q supplies the conversational access layer.

ServiceNow is the clearest named ITSM integration in Riverbed’s announcement. In practice, that matters because a diagnosis or suggested fix can be associated with the incident and change processes an operations team already uses, rather than remaining in a separate observability console.
Organizations evaluating the integration should verify which IQ Assist findings can be written to their ServiceNow records, what approval is required before an action is executed and how evidence such as the root-cause view is retained in the ticket. The announcement establishes the integration, but does not specify every connector field, workflow rule or licensing condition.

What the reported numbers do—and do not—prove
Riverbed reported 102% year-over-year observability bookings growth in the first quarter of 2025. The company also said its customers were running more than 64 million AI remediations annually. CRN reported the bookings figure, while the remediation count appeared in Riverbed’s April 8, 2025 release.
Both figures are vendor-reported indicators of adoption or commercial momentum, not independent measures of accuracy, time saved or return on investment. No neutral benchmark or independent customer-ROI study is established by these announcements, so they should not be treated as proof that Riverbed’s AI outperforms competing platforms.
Questions to answer before deployment
- Telemetry scope: Confirm that the planned deployment covers the required applications, networks, endpoints, cloud services and digital-experience signals.
- Data handling: Determine what remains in the Riverbed Data Store, what Smart OTel exports and which third-party sources can be converted into OTel-compliant insights.
- Human approval: Define approval gates for IQ Assist recommendations and for any agentic task that can alter systems or workflows.
- Workflow fit: Map IQ Assist findings to ServiceNow incident, problem and change processes before enabling broad automation.
- Availability and packaging: Check the current status of the exact modules required; the original 2025 announcement used different availability dates for general features, Agentic AI and NPM+ Packet Capture.
- Evidence quality: Decide how operators will inspect the supporting flows, packets and correlated telemetry when an AI recommendation is disputed.
Bottom line
Riverbed’s AI strategy is a layered observability design: Smart OTel controls the signal, the Data Store correlates it, IQ Ops predicts risk, IQ Assist explains incidents and agentic AI handles supervised, task-specific work. IQ Assist and ServiceNow integration were announced as available in April 2025, while the September 2026 Network 360 release shows those capabilities moving into AppResponse and NetProfiler. The platform’s adoption figures are encouraging but remain Riverbed’s own reports, not independent validation.
