In YouTube Live Control Room, stream health can help distinguish missing audio from an unsupported codec.
1. Confirm Restreamer is configured to send the right audio
Open the active stream’s settings and inspect its audio configuration. Restreamer’s wizard distinguishes three states:

| Silence | Sends a silent audio track. Restreamer notes that some destinations, including YouTube, require an active audio channel. | Do not use this as a sound fix; it supplies a track but cannot restore program audio. |
| No audio | Sends no audio track. | Change this if the stream should contain audible sound. |
Restreamer’s interface wording can vary by version. Its official documentation describes the wizard and editable audio settings in the active stream’s general settings.
2. Check whether the selected source actually contains audio
Use the source’s check function and read its detail message if the check fails. Restreamer documents sampling-rate and mono/stereo layout controls for its network audio source settings; it recommends 44,100 Hz for that documented source. Confirm that the selected source carries sound and that its rate and layout match the incoming signal and intended output.

A working picture does not prove that the audio input is present. The check workflow is documented, but it is not a universal test for every camera, RTMP input, or network-audio setup.
3. Inspect Restreamer audio filters
If the source check succeeds but the output remains inaudible, look for processing that may mute or suppress the track. Restreamer documents sample-rate and layout controls, pan, volume, and normalization in its audio filters.

- Confirm the selected layout matches the incoming track: mono or stereo.
- Check that pan has not muted the left or right channel.
- Raise volume if it is set too low; check normalization settings if they are being used.
- Verify the active source and filters belong to the stream you are actually publishing.
4. Set an audio codec and format YouTube Live accepts
For YouTube Live over RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as accepted audio codecs. Its advanced recommendations are 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps for stereo, or 48 kHz and 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround. These are YouTube’s published configuration recommendations, not a guarantee that changing them will fix every silent stream.
For a typical stereo live feed, a practical baseline to try is AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. Apply the settings in the encoder or output configuration that controls the stream sent to YouTube; the exact control labels depend on your Restreamer version and setup. 5. Check the YouTube connection and stream health
Verify Restreamer is publishing
In Restreamer’s YouTube workflow, use Publication Service, enter a valid YouTube streaming ID, save, and check that the connected stream’s bitrate appears in Restreamer. The exact interface may vary by version; see the Restreamer documentation for its YouTube publication workflow.
Use YouTube’s error to narrow the cause
Open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect stream health. YouTube documents both a “Your encoder is sending no audio” error and unsupported-codec errors, with details and timestamps beside the health indicator.

- No audio: Start with the source selection and signal, then Restreamer’s filters and output path.
- Unsupported codec: Check the audio encoder setting and use an accepted codec such as AAC or MP3.
Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guide and live streaming error messages if the reported condition is unclear.

Send a test stream with representative audio and video, then monitor stream health before relying on the feed. YouTube advises testing with audio and video movement similar to what the actual stream will contain. This can expose a missing source, muted channel, or ingest-format error before viewers encounter it.
