Renesas and Intel developed a three-chip power-management architecture for laptops built around Intel Core Ultra 200V processors, also known as Lunar Lake. It combines the RAA225019 power-management IC (PMIC), RAA489301 pre-regulator, and ISL9241 battery charger. This is a platform design for laptop makers—not a chip or upgrade that consumers can install in an existing laptop.
What the Renesas–Intel solution is
Announced by Renesas on October 24, 2024, the solution is a customized power architecture for compact Core Ultra 200V laptop platforms. Its three devices manage different parts of the system’s power delivery: voltage regulation, pre-regulation, and battery charging. Renesas describes the design as intended to support compact systems, power efficiency, and thermal management. Renesas said all three devices were available from the company when it issued the announcement on October 24, 2024. That availability statement is dated; it does not establish current stock, pricing, or availability from a particular distributor.
How it relates to Core Ultra 200V
Intel introduced the Core Ultra 200V mobile processor family on September 3, 2024, positioning it for AI PCs and laptop designs focused on low-power performance. Intel’s launch materials report up to 50% lower package power and up to 120 total platform TOPS; these are Intel’s claims, not independent results for every processor, laptop, or workload. The Renesas components address the laptop’s power-delivery and charging design around the processor. They are not the processor itself, and the announcement does not establish that every Core Ultra 200V laptop uses this exact three-chip implementation.
Does this mean longer battery life?
Not by itself. Efficient voltage conversion and thermal management are design goals that may help laptop makers build efficient systems, but real battery life depends on the complete laptop: processor SKU, memory configuration, display, battery capacity, workload, cooling, and OEM firmware tuning. Renesas’ announcement does not give independent runtime tests or comparative results for retail laptops using this architecture.

For a meaningful laptop comparison, look for runtime measurements under the same test conditions, sustained performance per watt, thermals, chassis size, charging behavior, AI workload performance, processor SKU, memory configuration, and firmware. A component announcement alone cannot predict how long a particular laptop will run between charges.
Is it an upgrade consumers can buy?
No. This is a reference power architecture intended for laptop platform designers and manufacturers, not a consumer plug-in upgrade. A shopper choosing a Core Ultra 200V laptop should compare complete laptop models and their measured performance, battery life, and charging behavior. Current models and retail availability can change, so check the manufacturer or retailer listing for the specific configuration.

What Renesas and Intel said
Josh Newman, Intel vice president and general manager of Product and Platform Marketing, said the collaboration enabled a solution intended to support new mobile platforms and power efficiency. Tom Truman, Renesas vice president and general manager of Performance Computing Power, described the collaboration as supporting AI-powered mobile solutions.
