Xiaomi’s support database lists different update horizons for the Wi-Fi and 4G versions of the Redmi Pad 2 9.7. As reported on October 3, 2026, the Wi-Fi model is listed for updates through Android 21 and security support through April 2033; the 4G model is listed through Android 18 and April 2029. Xiaomi has not publicly confirmed why the two variants differ.
How the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 support horizons compare
Xiaomi’s Security Center lists the Wi-Fi and 4G tablets as separate devices. The figures below are prospective entries in Xiaomi’s support database reviewed in 2026, not guarantees that an update will arrive on a particular date in every market.
| Variant | Listed future Android version | Listed security-update end date |
|---|---|---|
| REDMI Pad 2 9.7 Wi-Fi | Android 21 | April 2033 |
| REDMI Pad 2 9.7 4G | Android 18 | April 2029 |
These model-specific entries are the clearest way to compare the published horizons. Check Xiaomi’s Security Center for the current rows, since Xiaomi says its policies and device listings can change. Notebookcheck reported the difference on October 3, 2026: its report on the Redmi tablet’s two-tier support.
Why do Wi-Fi and 4G have different support?
Xiaomi has not confirmed a reason for the gap in the cited sources. Notebookcheck suggests that carrier certification costs and lower sales volume for cellular tablets could be factors, but presents these as possible explanations—not Xiaomi’s stated rationale.

Xiaomi’s general policy says it typically maintains security updates for at least two years after a model’s first shipment, and that some models may receive three years or longer. That broad description does not determine the horizon for a particular tablet: the exact model entry is more useful when comparing these two variants.
Does the rollout schedule guarantee the listed Android versions?
No. Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 page placed both the REDMI Pad 2 and REDMI Pad 2 4G in its November–December 2025 soft-release group. Xiaomi says the schedule may change and that timing can vary by model and region. A place on that rollout schedule does not establish when either tablet will receive a future Android version, or guarantee availability in every market. See Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 page for its schedule and caveats.

Which Redmi Pad 2 9.7 variant should you choose?
Choose based on whether mobile connectivity is worth the shorter published support horizon to you. If you expect to use cellular service away from Wi-Fi, the 4G model offers that connectivity, but its current Xiaomi listing has the earlier Android and security endpoints. If Wi-Fi is enough, the Wi-Fi model has the longer horizon listed in the database. Before buying, match the precise 9.7-inch variant in the retailer listing to the corresponding Xiaomi support entry; similarly named Redmi Pad models may not share these dates.
For either version, revisit Xiaomi’s model listing before purchase or when assessing how much support remains. The published endpoints are useful for comparison, but they are not a substitute for checking the current entry and regional rollout information.
