Reddit says it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. If you follow Reddit posts in a general-purpose feed reader, Reddit says there is no replacement for those feeds. Moderators can move some alert workflows to supported Devvit apps, but that is a different use case—not a way to keep ordinary subreddit subscriptions working.
When does Reddit RSS stop working?
Reddit announced on September 30, 2026 that it plans to end RSS support on November 13, 2026. That is a future cutoff as of October 2, 2026; the announcement does not say that every feed has already stopped working. Reddit’s stated reason is that RSS has become a surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. Reddit’s announcement says it will preserve some moderation workflows through supported alternatives.
The practical effect depends on what you use RSS for:
| Use case | What Reddit says happens | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Following Reddit feeds in a feed reader outside a community you moderate | No replacement is available from Reddit. | Do not expect a different feed-reader app to restore Reddit feeds after the cutoff. |
| Receiving common alerts for a community you moderate | Some moderation workflows can move to supported alternatives. | Review the team’s setup and migrate before November 13; Reddit points to Devvit apps such as Discord Relay. |
Will Reddit RSS feeds still work in Feedly or another reader?
Reddit’s announcement does not offer a replacement for RSS feeds used outside communities a person moderates. Changing from Feedly to another reader—or installing a desktop RSS extension—does not change Reddit’s side of the connection. The company has not said whether it may build a general replacement later; its current stated position is that there is no replacement for this use case. Reddit’s RSS announcement

What should Reddit moderators use instead?
Moderators who rely on RSS for community alerts should distinguish those alerts from general feed subscriptions. Reddit recommends Devvit apps, including Discord Relay, for common alerts in communities a person moderates. It asks moderator teams to review their workflows and migrate before the RSS cutoff. This is a suggested path for moderation-related alerts, not a promise that every RSS-based workflow has an equivalent or that the replacement will deliver general subreddit feeds.
Is Reddit’s public API shutting down too?
Yes, Reddit has announced a separate transition for public Data API apps and bots to its Developer Platform. It has multiple stages, so the API timeline should not be confused with the RSS cutoff:

| October 31, 2026 | Reddit will stop accepting new requests for public API access. |
| January 12, 2027 | Reddit says it will begin removing access from apps and users that have not registered or engaged. |
| March 2027 | Reddit plans to close public access for remaining apps and users. |
Reddit says more than 14,000 apps and bots have registered. Its $1 million App Migration Program offers $1,000 payments to eligible apps that successfully migrate, with possible eligibility for Developer Funds, free hosting, and technical guidance. These provisions are for app developers; they are not a consumer workaround for RSS feeds. Reddit’s developer announcement
Why is Reddit restricting access to public content?
Reddit says it is responding to large-scale scraping, spam networks, agentic account creation, and automated abuse, while trying to preserve tools for moderators and communities. Its May 28, 2026 announcement also said it would shut down unauthenticated .json endpoints, which Reddit said could enable scraping without accountability; at that time, it said logged-in and authenticated access would not be affected. Reddit’s published policy applies to automation beyond conventional web crawlers. Its Help page says API access and apps—including bots, AI agents, and non-human-operated accounts—must be transparent and accountable, and identifies unauthorized scraping and data collection without permission as prohibited. In June 2024, Reddit said it would update its robots.txt file and continue rate-limiting or blocking unknown bots and crawlers. It also said good-faith researchers and the Internet Archive would retain non-commercial access. That earlier arrangement describes Reddit’s 2024 access policy; it is not a comment on the 2026 RSS cutoff. Reddit’s 2024 announcement

- Old Reddit: Over the next few months, Reddit plans to limit logged-in Old Reddit access to moderators and users who have used Old Reddit within the previous six months.
- AutoModerator: For newly created communities and communities that have never used AutoModerator, Reddit plans to disable enforcement actions such as Report, Filter, Remove, Mark as spam, and Approve. Communities already using AutoModerator are not affected, and its non-enforcement capabilities remain available.
These are separate changes with distinct eligibility rules; the announcement does not say that all users will lose Old Reddit access or that existing AutoModerator users will lose enforcement actions. Reddit’s announcement
