Reality Defender announced on October 22, 2024, that its Series A had expanded to a total of $33 million. Illuminate Financial led the expansion, joined by several venture and strategic investors. The headline’s “banks” means the company raised investment; it does not mean banks supplied the round. Reality Defender sells enterprise software intended to detect AI-generated and manipulated media, with products described as a web platform, API and, on its current site, SDKs and live-call or meeting analysis.

How much did Reality Defender raise?

The company announced an expanded Series A totaling $33 million on October 22, 2024. The release calls it an expanded round; the figure is the Series A total, not a separately established lifetime-funding total. The announcement does not break down how much each investor contributed. Who invested in Reality Defender’s $33 million round?

Illuminate Financial led the expansion. The announcement named the following additional participants:

  • Booz Allen Ventures
  • IBM Ventures
  • Jefferies Family Office
  • Accenture

It also said original or past investors DCVC, The Partnership Fund for New York City, and Y Combinator participated. What does Reality Defender do?

Founded in 2021, Reality Defender describes itself as an enterprise-oriented platform for detecting deepfakes and other AI-generated or manipulated media. Its 2024 funding announcement listed detection for audio, video, images, and text, delivered through a cloud-based web platform and API. DCVC-hosted funding announcement

The company’s current product site describes analysis of audio, video, and images in live calls, meetings, and uploaded files. It says organizations can route a detection signal through existing systems according to their own rules, and it advertises API and SDK access. The site also advertises 50 free audio or image scans per month; that is a vendor-published allowance, not an independent performance result. Reality Defender product site

These descriptions concern a detection signal, not proof that a recording is authentic or fake. The materials cited here do not establish independent comparative accuracy or detection performance, so buyers should assess how a result is used in their own review and escalation processes.

Can deepfakes be detected during a live call?

Reality Defender’s current site says its platform analyzes live calls and meetings, in addition to uploaded files. That is the company’s product description, not independent confirmation of how well detection works in a particular call environment. A buyer evaluating live-call use should check supported channels, integration requirements, how alerts enter existing workflows, and what human review follows a detection signal.

Why did the company target enterprise fraud and security teams?

Reality Defender’s funding announcement framed the opportunity around risks to financial institutions and other organizations. Accenture’s October 22, 2024 announcement said its strategic investment would support work with clients in financial services, media, and high tech, and that it intended to integrate Reality Defender into existing offerings, including its call-center AI automation solution. These were announced plans; the release does not establish the subsequent scope or results of an integration. Accenture’s announcement

Accenture Cyber Intelligence researchers reported a 223% increase in the purchasing and selling of deepfake-related tools on major dark-web forums in Q1 2024 compared with Q1 2023. That statistic provides threat context; it does not measure Reality Defender’s detection accuracy. Accenture’s announcement

What happened after the 2024 funding announcement?

Later announcements extended the company’s enterprise positioning, but they are separate from the 2024 financing:

  • March 19, 2026: Alethea and Reality Defender announced a partnership combining online-risk intelligence with detection of AI-generated and manipulated media. The announcement said the joint capability would be accessible through both companies and aimed to help customers move from verification to response. These are the partners’ stated plans, not independent evidence of efficacy. Alethea partnership announcement
  • September 10, 2026: KPMG announced a minority investment and said it intended to incorporate deepfake detection into its cyber and fraud-prevention practices. KPMG described the platform as detection-only and multimodal, and said it works with banks, contact centers, and global enterprises through APIs and integrations. Investment terms were not disclosed. What should enterprise buyers evaluate?

The announcements describe an enterprise detection product, but they do not provide independent comparative test results. Organizations considering this category can use these practical criteria:

  • Media and channel coverage: Confirm which media types and workflows are supported, including whether the need is live-call or meeting analysis, uploaded-file review, or both.
  • Deployment and integration: Determine whether analysts will use a standalone web interface or whether API, SDK, or partner integration is needed in existing communications, fraud, or security systems.
  • Decision workflow: Establish what happens after a signal is generated, who reviews it, and what other evidence is required before taking action. Do not treat a detector output as a conclusive authenticity judgment.
  • Evidence quality: Ask for evaluation data relevant to the organization’s media types and operating conditions, and distinguish vendor or partner descriptions from independent benchmark evidence.
