Razer’s USB 4 Dock (model family RC21-0228) is a 14-port hub designed to connect a laptop to displays, peripherals, wired networking and storage through one host cable. Razer advertises up to 40 Gbps USB 4 bandwidth, one display at up to 4K/120 Hz or two at up to 4K/60 Hz each, and laptop charging up to 100 W peak. Those are manufacturer specifications; the display mode you get depends on both the dock and your computer’s video-output support.

What is the Razer USB 4 Dock?

Razer announced the RC21-0228 on November 14, 2024, positioning it as a single-cable dock for gaming and work PCs. Its upstream connection uses USB 4, with advertised bandwidth up to 40 Gbps. That is the connection’s rated maximum, not a promise that every attached device will transfer data at that speed. Razer’s launch announcement describes the dock’s intended role; the product page lists its current features and specifications.

What ports does it have?

Razer calls the dock a 14-port design. The listed connections include display outputs, Ethernet, card readers, audio, USB-A and USB-C, plus a dedicated port for 2.4 GHz wireless dongles. The power input and included power adapter are not additional data ports.

Connection Razer-listed capability
HDMI HDMI 2.1
DisplayPort DisplayPort 1.4
Ethernet Gigabit Ethernet
SD and microSD UHS-II card readers
USB-C One USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port; up to 20 W battery charging
USB-A One USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, up to 10 Gbps; two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, up to 5 Gbps each; and one USB-A 2.0 port
Wireless accessory port Dedicated USB port for 2.4 GHz dongles
Audio 3.5 mm microphone/headphone combo jack; Razer lists 7.1 surround support
Host connection USB 4 upstream port, advertised up to 40 Gbps

Razer says the dedicated dongle port is intended to reduce wireless interference for connected gaming peripherals. That is the company’s stated rationale, not an independently verified radio-performance result. The company also lists an independent power button, allowing devices to charge from the dock without a PC connection.

Can it run two 4K monitors?

Razer specifies one display at up to 4K/120 Hz, or two displays at up to 4K/60 Hz each. These are the dock’s advertised maximum modes, not guaranteed outcomes for every laptop and monitor combination. Your host computer must support the relevant video output over its USB-C/USB 4 connection, and the displays and cables must support the target resolution and refresh rate.

Before relying on a particular setup, check the laptop manufacturer’s specifications for its USB-C port’s video-output capability and confirm the intended display mode for your operating system and screens. The dock’s HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 connectors alone do not establish that any USB-C laptop can drive two 4K displays at 60 Hz.

Charging: what do 100 W and 180 W mean?

The dock includes a 180 W power adapter. Razer lists laptop charging up to 100 W peak and 96 W sustained. These figures describe the dock’s stated power delivery to the host laptop; actual charging depends on the laptop and how it uses power. The separate USB-C port is listed for up to 20 W battery charging for connected devices.

Which computers and devices are compatible?

Razer’s product FAQ says the dock supports Windows and macOS systems with USB 4 or USB 3 over USB Type-C and broadly names PCs, MacBooks, iPads and Chromebooks. That broad compatibility statement does not mean every listed device supports every dock feature. In particular, confirm the exact model’s USB protocol and video-output support if you need an external display or a specific multi-monitor mode. The Razer product FAQ is the manufacturer’s compatibility reference.
