1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe wired Razer Basilisk V3 is a feature-rich, right-handed gaming mouse whose strongest documented draws are 11 programmable buttons and a scroll wheel that can switch between tactile notches and free spin. The trade-offs are a cable and a manufacturer-listed weight of 101 g without the cable. Its specifications are extensive, but they do not by themselves establish comfort, tracking quality in practice, or long-term reliability.
What the Razer Basilisk V3 is—and isn’t
This review covers the original Razer Basilisk V3 wired gaming mouse, model family RZ01-04000100. It is not the wireless Basilisk V3 Pro or the later Basilisk V3 35K. Razer lists the original as a right-handed mouse with a Speedflex cable. Razer’s product specifications identify its maximum sensitivity as 26,000 DPI; the 35K figure belongs to a different model.
That distinction matters when shopping: confirm the exact model name and wired connection rather than relying on a listing that says only “Basilisk V3.” Razer announced the original on September 8, 2021, with a launch MSRP of $69.99 USD / 79.99€. Those are historical launch prices, not a statement of current cost. Current pricing and local availability are not established here.
What are the Basilisk V3’s key specifications?
The figures below are Razer’s manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. A high maximum DPI or a switch-lifecycle rating should not be read as a guarantee of better real-world performance or a particular service life.

How useful are the buttons and scroll wheel?
Eleven programmable buttons, including one underneath
Razer describes the layout as 10+1: ten accessible controls plus a profile-switch button on the underside. The bottom button switches onboard profiles by default and can be reassigned through Synapse. It is not a removable trigger. Razer’s September 8, 2021 launch announcement describes the 10+1 arrangement, while its product FAQ explains configuration and profile options.

- CONFIGURABLE HYPERSCROLL TILT WHEEL — Choose between tactile cycling and smooth, free-spin scrolling, or auto-switch between them based on the scroll speed in Smart-Reel mode—now configurable on Synapse
- RAZER FOCUS PRO 35K OPTICAL SENSOR GEN-2 — Experience best-in-class tracking performance on a wider variety of surfaces including glass, supported by intelligent functions and 1-DPI step adjustments for more granular aim and control
- 13 CUSTOMIZABLE CONTROLS — Assign an endless combination of commands and macros across 13 easy-access controls, including its acclaimed multi-function trigger to execute essential actions like push-to-talk, ping, and more
- 11-ZONE CHROMA LIGHTING WITH FULL UNDERGLOW — Customize each zone from over 16.8 million colors and countless lighting effects, and experience greater immersion as they react dynamically with over 200 Chroma-integrated games
- RAZER OPTICAL MOUSE SWITCHES GEN-3 — From an improved 90-million click lifecycle with zero double-clicking issues, to a blistering 0.2 ms actuation with no debounce delay, enjoy reliability and speed that outshines all others
For games or workflows that benefit from multiple commands close at hand, the button count offers flexibility. Whether the placement is comfortable or useful depends on how you hold the mouse and which commands you want to assign; the documented specifications do not establish fit for a particular hand size or grip. Razer’s HyperShift feature can provide a secondary button profile, but using these mappings and macros involves Synapse.
Notched, free-spin, and tilt scrolling
The wheel supports tactile notched scrolling for controlled, step-by-step movement and free spin for smoother, faster movement through long pages or documents. It also tilts in four directions, adding horizontal input. Razer describes Smart-Reel as automatically shifting from tactile to free spin when the wheel is spun faster, and virtual acceleration as increasing scroll speed as the wheel spins faster. These software options are enabled through Synapse.

- Razer Optical Mouse Switches Gen-2 For Unrivalled Speed and Reliability: With zero unintended misclicks you can count on these switches to provide crisp, responsive execution at a blistering 0.2ms actuation speed for up to 70 million clicks.
The practical appeal is having different scroll behavior available on one mouse: precise steps for selecting items, for example, and faster movement through a long document. The automatic switching and acceleration options may be useful if you want the wheel to adapt to how quickly you spin it; they are not necessary to use the basic tactile and free-spin modes.
What does using Synapse involve?
Razer’s product FAQ names Synapse 3 for button mappings, macros, and lighting. Configuration of the programmable controls and the described Smart-Reel and virtual-acceleration features therefore depends on Razer software. The manual specifies a USB-A port for the mouse and lists Windows 10 64-bit or higher plus an internet connection for installing Synapse. Those are the requirements stated in the manual; they should not be generalized into a claim about support for other operating systems or newer versions.

Razer provides setup and configuration details in its product FAQ and official Basilisk V3 manual. If you want an uncomplicated mouse that needs no vendor software for custom mappings, that software dependence is an important consideration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is the wired Basilisk V3 a good fit for?
- Consider it if you want a wired mouse with many programmable controls, onboard profiles, and multiple scroll modes in a right-handed design.
- Think carefully if you prefer wireless connectivity or are specifically seeking a lighter mouse: Razer lists the Basilisk V3 at 101 g without its cable.
- Check fit before buying if hand size and grip are decisive. The listed dimensions describe the shell, but no hand-size comfort testing is established here.
- Compare it with alternatives by connection type, shape and handedness, verified weight, button placement, scroll behavior, and software dependence—not maximum DPI alone.
Razer’s specifications and announcement establish a substantial feature set, but they do not provide independent tracking or latency measurements, comparative rankings, or evidence of long-term reliability. Those performance and durability judgments cannot be made from the manufacturer specifications alone.
