Rain and thunderstorms are forecast across parts of Georgia this weekend, but the timing and expected amounts differ by region. In north and central Georgia, the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office expected scattered showers and storms Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, then widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms Sunday into Monday. Its October 3, 2026, 5:08 a.m. EDT outlook warned that intense rainfall could cause localized flash flooding; severe weather was not anticipated in that update.

When rain is expected in north and central Georgia

The National Weather Service Peachtree City outlook issued at 5:08 a.m. EDT on Saturday, October 3, described this sequence for north and central Georgia:

  • Saturday afternoon into Saturday night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, with possible ponding on roads and nuisance flooding in low-lying places or areas with poor drainage.
  • Sunday into Monday: Widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms.

The office said, “Otherwise, severe weather is not anticipated at this time.” That statement describes the October 3 morning outlook, not a guarantee about later conditions. Read the Peachtree City Hazardous Weather Outlook.

Flooding is the main concern in the cited outlooks

Heavy rain falling quickly can overwhelm drainage and cause water to collect on roads or in low-lying areas. The Peachtree City outlook warned of localized flash flooding from high rainfall rates. The Jacksonville office also noted possible localized flooding from heavy downpours in its area, which includes southeast Georgia. These are potential impacts, not confirmation that flooding will occur at a particular location.

Forecast amounts vary by region

The National Weather Service Tallahassee Area Forecast Discussion, issued at 2:08 a.m. EDT Friday, October 2, forecast weekend totals of 2–3 inches across its Alabama and Georgia counties and 3–5 inches across its Florida counties, with locally higher totals of 5–7 inches possible along the immediate coast. These are forecast amounts for the office’s regional area—not observed rainfall or an estimate for Georgia as a whole or any specific town. Read the Tallahassee forecast discussion.

For southeast Georgia, the National Weather Service Jacksonville discussion described increasing daily thunderstorm coverage and heavy downpours over the weekend and into next week, with possible localized flooding. For Monday, the Weather Prediction Center focused its heaviest-rain concern on far southeastern Georgia and parts of northern Florida. Those products cover different areas and periods from the Peachtree City outlook, so their amounts and timing should not be treated as one statewide forecast.
