That was a hoped-for practice return—not confirmation that Thornton had practiced, been activated from injured reserve, or would play on October 11.
What is Thornton’s injury status?
The Raiders placed Thornton on Reserve/Injured on August 31, according to the team’s transaction archive. CBS Sports reported that an undisclosed injury kept him out of most training-camp practices and led to his opening the season on injured reserve. The injury diagnosis has not been disclosed.
In its October 2 update, CBS Sports, citing Raiders.com reporter Levi Edwards, said Kubiak hoped Thornton would be back at practice ahead of Week 5. The report described an expectation, not a completed return. The Raiders’ practice and news archive lists Week 4 practice entries from September 30 through October 2; those entries do not, by themselves, establish that Thornton participated.
Could Thornton play against the Patriots?
Practice participation and game availability are separate steps. The October 2 report did not confirm an injured-reserve activation or say Thornton would be available for the game. Las Vegas was scheduled to visit New England on October 11, according to the Raiders’ 2026 schedule. Without a confirmed practice return and subsequent availability information, his Week 5 status remained uncertain as of the report.
