Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X75 in February 2023 as a 5G modem-RF system for device makers—not as a finished phone, laptop, or consumer modem. Its headline feature is a dedicated tensor accelerator for modem AI, alongside peak specifications of 10 Gbps download and 3.5 Gbps upload. Those are Qualcomm’s platform figures, not typical speeds guaranteed to users.

What Qualcomm announced

The Snapdragon X75 is a cellular connectivity platform designed for integration into products such as smartphones, vehicles, PCs, industrial IoT equipment and fixed wireless access (FWA) devices. Qualcomm called it the world’s first 5G Advanced-ready modem-RF system when it announced the platform in February 2023. “Ready” describes Qualcomm’s design positioning; it does not mean every X75-equipped device or carrier network supports every 5G Advanced capability.

Qualcomm said the X75 was sampling to customers at announcement, with commercial devices expected from the second half of 2023. That was a forecast at the time, not a current guarantee of availability in any particular product or market. Qualcomm’s announcement describes the platform and its expected device timeline.

What the built-in AI does

The X75 combines a dedicated tensor accelerator with Qualcomm 5G AI Suite Gen 2. Qualcomm identifies these functions for AI assistance: beam management, channel-state feedback, antenna tuning and GNSS positioning. In practical terms, these are ways to help the modem manage radio links and positioning; they are not a general-purpose AI assistant or a feature that users operate directly.

Qualcomm reported “2.5 times improved AI performance over Gen 1,” based on testing on dedicated machine-learning hardware. The figure is Qualcomm’s comparison, not an independently established measure of improved real-world data speed or battery life. The AI features and architecture are outlined in Qualcomm’s X75 announcement.

How fast is the Snapdragon X75?

Qualcomm’s X75 product brief lists peak rates of 10 Gbps download and 3.5 Gbps upload. It also lists up to 1000 MHz of bandwidth, aggregation of up to 10 mmWave carriers, and aggregation of up to five sub-6 GHz carriers. These are platform peak specifications; actual speeds depend on the device implementation, carrier network, available spectrum, signal conditions and other factors. The specifications appear in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 product brief.

What Qualcomm’s 7.5 Gbps record means

Qualcomm separately reported a 7.5 Gbps sub-6 GHz downlink record in a 5G standalone test. The test used 300 MHz of spectrum, four-carrier TDD aggregation and 1024-QAM. Because it was a controlled test with those specific network conditions, the result should not be read as a normal carrier speed or as a prediction of what a consumer will see. Qualcomm’s record announcement gives the stated test setup.

What “5G Advanced-ready” means

5G Advanced refers to capabilities associated with the evolution of 5G, rather than a guarantee that every network or device will provide a particular feature. Qualcomm described the X75 as designed to support upcoming 5G Advanced capabilities. The experience a buyer gets still depends on the carrier’s network, spectrum and software, as well as the finished device’s antennas, firmware and regional certifications.

Therefore, an X75 product label alone does not establish that a device can use every 5G Advanced feature, achieve the modem’s peak rates, or work on every carrier. Check the device specifications and the carrier’s supported bands and features for the relevant region.

What changed in the radio architecture

Qualcomm described the X75 as using a converged mmWave and sub-6 GHz architecture. Compared with the previous architecture, Qualcomm claimed this approach reduces board footprint by 25% and power consumption by up to 20%. These are Qualcomm’s architecture comparisons; they do not mean every finished X75 device will be 25% smaller or use up to 20% less power than a comparable device. Product design and usage affect both size and power.

Can you buy an X75 modem module?

The X75 announcement was aimed at device makers, and the modem is not a complete consumer product by itself. Qualcomm later described globally certified M.2 and LGA reference designs integrating the modem, transceivers and RF front end for OEM and ODM products in areas including FWA, computing, gaming and XR. A reference design is a starting point for product development; it is not confirmation that a retail module is available to every buyer.

For someone seeking a physical product, the relevant category is an X75-based 5G M.2 modem module or compatible 5G modem hardware. Confirm the precise module model, host-system compatibility, supported bands, antenna requirements, carrier certification and regional approvals before buying. Qualcomm’s reference-design announcement describes the OEM/ODM designs, but does not establish a current retail price or a specific consumer module listing.

How to compare X75 with another modem

Compare the figures and functions on equivalent terms rather than relying on a “5G Advanced” label or a single peak-speed number.

Comparison point What to check
Peak rates Compare the modem’s stated peak download and upload figures, and distinguish them from carrier speeds measured in ordinary use.
Spectrum and aggregation Check supported mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands, bandwidth, and maximum carrier aggregation for the specific device or module.
AI functions Look for the stated scope—such as beam management, channel-state feedback, antenna tuning and GNSS positioning—rather than treating “AI” as one standardized capability.
Radio implementation Determine whether the product supports mmWave, sub-6 GHz or both, and how those capabilities are implemented in the finished device.
Power and footprint Ask what the comparison baseline is and whether figures describe the modem architecture or a complete product.
Standards and network features Check the specific 3GPP release support, dual-SIM and dual-data behavior, and the carrier and regional support for the device.
Product type Distinguish a consumer-ready phone or router from an OEM reference design or modem module that requires integration.

For any speed comparison, match the network mode, spectrum, bandwidth, carrier aggregation and test conditions. A controlled laboratory or demonstration record is not directly comparable with an everyday end-user result measured on a different network.
