pytest-html-reporter is a pytest plugin that generates static HTML test reports. The “3.1+ million downloads” figure in the original title is not verified by the available package and statistics pages, and downloads do not represent unique users. Here is what the plugin offers, how to generate a report, and what can—and cannot—be concluded about its popularity.

What is pytest-html-reporter?

The project describes pytest-html-reporter as a tool that “Generates a static html report based on pytest framework.” It is a Python plugin for pytest that turns test results into an HTML report. The project lists an overview, trends, suite highlights, test-suite details, archive/history views, screenshots on failure, and test rerun support. See the PyPI package page and the maintainer’s GitHub repository for the package description and usage documentation.

How do I generate an HTML report in pytest?

The maintainer’s README documents installing the plugin with pip and setting a report path with the --html-report option. Run these commands from the environment where your project’s pytest is installed:

  1. pip3 install pytest-html-reporter
  2. pytest --html-report=report

The second command follows the README’s example form: supply the desired report path after --html-report. The plugin also documents --title for setting the report title and --archive-count for limiting builds shown in the Archives section. Check the repository README for the precise options and examples before incorporating them into a project’s test command.

How do I attach a screenshot to a pytest HTML report?

The repository README documents attaching a Selenium screenshot through the package’s attach helper. This is intended for cases such as capturing evidence when a test fails. Use the helper as shown in the project’s current README and connect it to the point in your test or failure-handling flow where the screenshot is available. The sources establish that the feature is documented, but do not provide a compatibility test across current Selenium, pytest, or Python versions.

Does pytest-html-reporter have a demo?

The project lists report views and features, including overview, trends, suite highlights, details, archives/history, and failure screenshots. The reviewed package and repository information does not establish a separately hosted live demo. The README’s usage instructions are the available basis for generating a report and seeing the output in your own test run.

Is the “3.1+ million downloads” figure verified?

No. The retrieved PyPI package page and maintainer README do not establish a cumulative total of 3.1 million downloads. The third-party PyPI Download Stats page reports downloads over daily, weekly, and monthly intervals, rather than a verified lifetime total or a count of distinct people.

That statistics page showed 5,205 downloads for the last day, 29,782 for the last week, and 138,829 for the last month in a crawl roughly three months before October 3, 2026. These are stale interval counts, not current rates; they neither verify the 3.1 million claim nor show how many unique users installed or used the plugin. Downloads can include repeated installations by the same user or automated environments.

What should you check before adopting it?

The retrieved PyPI release history lists version 0.2.9, uploaded February 13, 2022, and specifies Python >=3.5. The repository search result also identifies v0.2.9 as its latest listed release. Those page details establish the listed release information, but do not establish whether the project is currently maintained or whether it works with present-day Python and pytest versions.

  • Confirm the installed package version and test it with the Python and pytest versions used by your project.
  • Run it in your own CI or local test workflow to verify that the generated report, archive behavior, and any screenshot attachment fit your needs.
  • If comparing reporting plugins, assess output format and interactivity, history retention, attachment support, configuration effort, version compatibility, and release recency. The available sources do not provide a tested head-to-head comparison.
