Navigate at domcontentloaded or load, then wait for the particular element or application state that must appear in the screenshot. For pages where reduced network traffic itself matters, use a finite network-idle wait as a separate step.
Why networkidle0 can keep a screenshot waiting
Navigation readiness and application readiness are different things. networkidle0 makes navigation wait for a network-idle condition; a page that continues making requests may not meet it even though the content you want has rendered. Increasing the timeout can simply make the same wait fail later.
Puppeteer’s navigation API lets you configure the lifecycle condition for page.goto(). Its screenshot guide demonstrates networkidle2, but that example is not a guarantee it will work for every site. A quieter network is also not proof that a specific component has finished loading or shows correct data.
Use a wait that matches the screenshot
Wait for the target element
When the screenshot is useful as soon as a particular component is visible, wait for that component rather than all requests to stop:

If the element appears before its data is ready, its visibility is too weak a condition; wait for a result count, completion indicator, or another state that signifies the screenshot is ready. Wait for an application-specific condition
Use waitForFunction() when readiness is represented by text or another condition in the page rather than the existence of an element alone:

Keep a network-idle wait only when it is required
If reduced network activity is itself a requirement, separate it from navigation and bound its wait:

The official API says waitForNetworkIdle() always waits at least the configured idle time. It remains a network condition, not confirmation that a particular widget is ready.

Debug the call that is actually hanging
- Mark each awaited operation. Log immediately before and after
page.goto(), each readiness wait, andpage.screenshot(). This distinguishes a navigation timeout from a later wait or capture problem; Puppeteer documents these as separate calls. Navigation API; Screenshot guide - Replace navigation idleness with a lifecycle milestone. Try
domcontentloadedorloadwhere suitable, then add the smallest meaningful element or application-state wait. Navigation API; Interactions guide - Bound any remaining network-idle wait. Set a finite timeout and decide explicitly whether a timeout should fail the capture or trigger a deliberate fallback. Verify supported options against your installed Puppeteer version. - For a component screenshot, wait for and capture the component. The official screenshot guide documents
ElementHandle.screenshot(); it scrolls the element into view by default if it is hidden. Screenshot guide - Check whether your condition proves enough. A visible page shell may precede its data, while a quiet network may still leave the wrong content. Match the wait to what the image must show.
Common problems and fixes
The selector wait succeeds but the screenshot is incomplete
The selector may identify a shell that appears before its contents are populated. Wait for a stronger state, such as the expected result count or a completion label, with waitForFunction().

waitForFunction never resolves
Check that the selector exists on the page you loaded and that the expected value can actually occur. Ensure the predicate represents the site’s real completion state; a condition that never becomes true cannot release the wait.
waitForNetworkIdle times out after navigation succeeds
The network condition is the failing step, not necessarily navigation or screenshot capture. If network quiet is not required, remove that wait and use an element or application-state condition instead. If it is required, keep a finite timeout and handle failure intentionally.

The screenshot call, not navigation, stalls
Log around page.screenshot() separately from navigation and readiness waits. This isolates capture from the idle condition; changing waitUntil will not fix a hang in a later call.
