For a normal cookie-consent banner, click the site’s actual consent control with a Puppeteer locator, wait until the banner is hidden, and then call page.screenshot(). The banner is part of the webpage, so the right selector and button text depend on the site; there is no universal cookie-banner selector.
Dismiss an in-page cookie banner before the screenshot
Puppeteer’s locator API is designed for page interaction: locator actions wait for an element to be present and ready for the requested action. The example below shows the sequence, but its button text and banner selector are illustrative. Replace both with values that match the page you are capturing.
- Navigate to the page. Choose a navigation wait condition that fits the site. There is no single wait condition established for every consent interface.
- Find the real consent control. Inspect the rendered page and use its accessible name, visible text, or a stable selector. Puppeteer supports CSS selectors as well as text and accessibility selector syntax.
- Click the control and verify dismissal. Wait for the banner’s selector to become hidden. If it remains visible until the timeout, treat that as a failed dismissal rather than saving a screenshot that still contains the overlay.
- Capture the page. Use
page.screenshot()after the hidden-state check.

Tell an HTML banner apart from a browser dialog
A consent panel rendered within the page is a regular page element. Find and interact with it using locators or selectors, then verify it is gone. Puppeteer’s Dialog API is for browser-native JavaScript dialogs—such as alerts or prompts—dispatched through the page’s dialog event; it is not the normal way to dismiss an HTML cookie banner. - The selector does not match the site. A generic selector or assumed “Accept” label may target nothing, or the wrong element. Inspect the actual consent interface and use its control and banner selector.
- The interface appears asynchronously. The control may not yet be visible or enabled when navigation finishes. Locator actions wait for relevant readiness conditions and retry when an action cannot proceed; choose a navigation wait suited to the page.
- The click is not proof of dismissal. A completed click does not establish that the overlay disappeared. Wait for the banner to become hidden before capturing.
- The hidden-state wait times out. The selector may be wrong or the banner may remain open. Check the selector and the page state; do not silently continue to a misleading screenshot.
These mechanics do not establish whether a particular site stores a consent preference after a click. That behavior depends on the site and cannot be inferred without examining it.
Capture only an element when that is all you need
If the goal is an image of one page element rather than the whole page, Puppeteer also supports ElementHandle.screenshot(). Resolve the intended element after handling any overlay that obscures it, then capture that element instead of the full page.

No. Banner markup and consent controls vary by site, so inspect the target page and use its actual control and banner selector.
Does dismissing the banner mean the site saved my consent?
