Use Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() in a sequential URL loop, set the same viewport before each navigation, choose viewport-only or full-page capture explicitly, and close each page in a finally block. The script below saves a separate PNG for each URL and can either stop at the first failure or continue through the list. Before automating any Indian publisher’s site or storing its screenshots, check that publisher’s current terms: technical access is not permission to copy or archive its content.
Check publisher terms before capturing
The publishers named here illustrate why authorization matters; their rules do not establish the terms for every Indian news site. The Indian Express terms page, dated December 27, 2021, says automated tools may not access, extract, download, or store content without permission and also restricts copying and archiving (Indian Express terms). The Hindu Group’s terms prohibit tools designed to scrape or collect content without prior written consent and prohibit caching or archiving (The Hindu Group terms). NDTV Profit’s terms prohibit automated means to monitor or copy its platform and systematic retrieval (NDTV Profit terms). Hindustan Times’ terms surfaced with restrictions on automated access, copying, caching, archiving, or indexing, with a stated public-search-engine exception subject to robots.txt (Hindustan Times terms).
Check the current terms for each domain you plan to capture, and obtain publisher approval where required. Do not bypass paywalls, CAPTCHAs, rate limits, or other access controls. For an authorized workflow, use publisher-approved methods and keep only what your authorization permits.
Install Puppeteer and choose capture settings
Puppeteer’s documented capture method is Page.screenshot(); the API also offers ElementHandle.screenshot() when you need a particular element rather than a whole page (Puppeteer screenshot guide). This example uses a page screenshot.

Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project with npm install puppeteer. The script uses ECMAScript imports; use a .mjs file or configure the project for ES modules. It launches the browser bundled with Puppeteer, so a separate browser installation is not needed for this example.
Viewport and page extent
Set the viewport before navigation, using identical dimensions for every URL when you want to compare layouts. Responsive pages can rearrange content according to viewport size; desktop and mobile captures are different layout choices, not interchangeable sizes. Puppeteer’s viewport reference recommends setting it before navigation where a site responds to viewport changes (Page.setViewport()).
fullPage defaults to false. Set fullPage: true to request the full document; leave it false for only the visible viewport. Extremely long or dynamically changing pages may need additional handling, and one full-page capture is not a guarantee that every lazy-loaded item has appeared (ScreenshotOptions).

Readiness and format
The example waits for networkidle2, a useful starting point, not a universal definition of a finished news page. Ads, live updates, widgets, and lazy images can continue changing after that point; persistent network activity can also prevent an idle condition. For each publisher, validate a representative page and select a wait condition or page-specific readiness check that matches the content you are authorized to capture. Run a sequential multi-site screenshot script
Replace the example URLs with sites you are authorized to capture. Processing sequentially is straightforward and limits simultaneous page and browser activity. Each output name includes both a sanitized hostname and an index, so paths do not collide when a URL list includes repeated hosts. A manifest records the URL, capture time, viewport, and outcome.

);The continueOnError setting makes the batch policy explicit: with true, a failed URL is recorded and later URLs are attempted; with false, the error aborts the loop. In either case the page and browser are closed through finally. The manifest is written after browser cleanup; if launch fails, no manifest is produced. The script is an adaptable template, not a tested guarantee for every publisher’s page behavior.
Adapt the capture to the page you need
Capture only the visible viewport
Change fullPage: true to fullPage: false, or omit the option since false is the default. This yields a consistent-height image for comparing top-of-page layouts when the viewport is also fixed.

Wait for a selector that identifies the authorized content, then capture its element handle. A missing selector should be treated as a failed capture, not silently replaced by a screenshot of an unrelated page.

Handle lazy-loaded content cautiously
For a page where below-the-fold images load only after scrolling, controlled scrolling can prompt those resources to load before a full-page screenshot. This is a tactic to validate on representative pages, not a universal procedure or guarantee. It can trigger additional page requests, so only do it within the terms and authorization that apply.

Troubleshoot failed or incomplete captures
- Navigation timeout: The page may have persistent requests or may simply be slow. Test a different readiness condition, adjust the timeout to fit the authorized workflow, or use a page-specific selector. Do not treat a timeout as evidence that the page was captured.
- Screenshot finishes before relevant content appears: A navigation event may precede client-side modules or lazy images. Wait for a relevant selector or a carefully chosen delay, then inspect representative output. A generic wait cannot guarantee all live content has settled.
- Some below-the-fold items are missing: They may load on scroll or after interaction. Validate a controlled-scroll tactic on that page, or use a site-specific readiness check; a full-page option alone does not guarantee lazy assets are loaded.
- Files overwrite one another: Ensure the output path includes a per-entry index or another unique component. The sample combines an index with the hostname, so repeated hostnames still get separate files.
- One site prevents the rest of the batch: Set
continueOnErrortotrueto log the failed URL and proceed, or set it tofalsewhen the batch must stop on the first error. - Browser resources accumulate: Keep page closure in a per-URL
finallyblock and browser closure in an outerfinally; do not rely on normal completion alone. - Access is blocked or disallowed: Stop and review the publisher’s terms and authorization. Do not work around a CAPTCHA, paywall, rate limit, or other access control.
Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
Sequential capture is a sensible default for a small list because it keeps resource use and failure handling easy to understand. If a larger authorized job needs concurrency, use a bounded number of pages rather than opening every URL at once, and monitor memory, timeouts, and publisher limits. The cited sources do not establish a universally safe concurrency level for these sites.
Reliability depends on more than Puppeteer returning a screenshot: pages can change, network state can vary, and site-specific readiness checks can go stale. Keep the manifest, inspect a sample of generated files, and record enough context to reproduce a run. This local script incurs the cost of the machine and runtime you provide; it does not include an external screenshot-service price.
