Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf a Puppeteer screenshot cuts off content below a fixed footer, first make sure you are capturing the full document with fullPage: true. If the footer still covers page content, temporarily change that specific footer to normal document flow for the capture. Also check that an unintended clip rectangle is not restricting the image.
Capture the full document with Puppeteer
A default Puppeteer screenshot captures the viewport, not necessarily the entire document. Set fullPage: true to request a full-page screenshot; Puppeteer documents that this option defaults to false and that, when enabled, it takes a screenshot of the full page (ScreenshotOptions reference).
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
If you use a different output path or format, change the path and extension to match. This setting addresses a viewport-only capture; it does not guarantee that a fixed element will stop visually overlapping content.
When a fixed footer still covers content
A fixed footer is positioned relative to the viewport rather than occupying its usual space in the document flow. On a full-page capture, it can therefore appear over page content. There is no dedicated fixed-footer switch in the screenshot options. One page-specific workaround to test is a narrowly targeted CSS rule that temporarily makes the footer static:

await page.addStyleTag({
content: '.site-footer { position: static !important; }',
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
Replace .site-footer with the selector used by the target page. Check the rendered result: moving the footer into normal flow changes the layout and may affect page height or spacing. The snippet illustrates the workaround; its selector and visual effect need to be verified on your page. If the footer should not appear in the image at all, a targeted hide rule may be more appropriate.
If the page remains in use after capture, avoid leaving the temporary change in place. You can restore the original page by reloading it or by removing the injected style element after the screenshot.

Check whether a clip is restricting the image
Puppeteer’s clip option defines a specific capture rectangle, separately from fullPage (ScreenshotOptions reference). If your screenshot call includes a clip, inspect its coordinates and dimensions:
xandy: where the rectangle begins.widthandheight: how much area it includes.
For a whole-document screenshot, remove an unintended clip or correct its geometry for the intended capture. A rectangle that ends too early can cut off content independently of any footer overlap.

Use captureBeyondViewport only for the issue it addresses
The current Puppeteer API reference says captureBeyondViewport defaults to false when there is no clip and true when a clip is present. Setting it explicitly to true is not a universal fix: it cannot correct an undersized clip or change a fixed footer’s layout behavior (ScreenshotOptions reference).
Choose the capture approach that matches the goal
| Goal or symptom | What to use or inspect |
|---|---|
| Capture only what is visible in the browser viewport | A normal screenshot without fullPage: true. |
| Capture the full document | fullPage: true. |
| Capture a deliberate region | A correctly sized and positioned clip rectangle. |
| The fixed footer visually covers content that should be visible | Test a page-specific temporary CSS override, such as position: static, or hide the footer if it should not appear. |
| Screenshot is still cut off despite the expected options | Check the actual clip values and confirm the installed Puppeteer and supported browser versions before trying historical workarounds. |
Use an element screenshot when only one part matters
If the target is a particular element rather than the entire document, Puppeteer also supports taking a screenshot of an element. That can avoid treating the problem as a full-page capture issue; see the Puppeteer screenshot guide for the documented screenshot approaches.

Check versions before copying old workarounds
Puppeteer’s current screenshot options reference identifies itself as version 25.12.0. An older GitHub discussion describes a clipping change associated with the Chromium roll for Puppeteer v2.0.0 and later comments about a Blink flag (Puppeteer issue #5080). That thread is historical, not a current recommendation. Check the browser version supported by your installed Puppeteer release and use the current API documentation rather than assuming an old flag still applies.
Troubleshoot common cutoff causes
- Only the visible viewport appears: Add
fullPage: trueif you need the full document. - The footer lies over content: Test a narrowly scoped temporary style that changes its positioning, and inspect the resulting layout.
- The image ends at a specific boundary: Check whether
clipis set and verify itsx,y,width, andheight. - Changing
captureBeyondViewporthas no effect: Revisit the clip and footer layout; that option does not fix either of those causes by itself. - An old Chromium or Blink flag was suggested: Confirm compatibility with the Puppeteer and browser versions you actually run before relying on it.
