It combines locally processed wake-word and intent models with servos for stove controls and a separate audio module for spoken feedback. It is a project demonstration, not a consumer-ready or safety-certified appliance.
What the prototype can do
The Hackster.io project, published June 13, 2022, describes a voice interface that can start and stop a burner, adjust its flame, set a burner timer, and respond with spoken feedback. Its wake phrase is “Hey Stove.” After detecting that phrase, the device uses speech-to-intent recognition to interpret a command.
The author describes the recognition as working without cloud connectivity. That refers to operation of the device; the development process still involves generating models through Picovoice Console and adding them to a ModusToolbox project. The published description does not provide independent performance measurements or a benchmark for recognition accuracy.
How voice control and hardware fit together
Voice recognition on the PSoC 6
The named development platform is Infineon’s PSoC 62S2 Wi-Fi BT Pioneer Kit, model CY8CKIT-062S2-43012. The project uses Picovoice Porcupine for the “Hey Stove” wake word and Picovoice Rhino for speech-to-intent recognition. The builder generates models for the PSoC 6 platform and incorporates them into the ModusToolbox project.

The IoT Sense Expansion Kit, model CY8CKIT-028-SENSE, provides the microphone and audio codec described in the build. GPIO signals and LEDs indicate wake-word or intent detection.
Servos, timer, and feedback
Two PWM outputs drive servo motors: one moves the gas valve and the other pulls the lever on the piezo igniter. A low-power timer tracks the cooking timer. For spoken responses, UART messages go to a Beetle board, which selects MP3 audio for playback through an enclosed speaker. These are descriptions by the project author, not independently verified tests of the actuation or voice-feedback system.

The author reported “Around $50 of extra hardware” in 2022 and said the Pioneer Kit was provided. That is a historical estimate, not a current parts budget or price. Component availability and software interfaces may have changed since publication; check compatibility and current stock before sourcing parts. The development kit alone is not a complete stove-control system.
What the project does not establish about safety
The project does not document consumer safety validation or certification, and it should not be treated as instructions for modifying a household gas appliance. In particular, the described build does not establish that it has protections for gas leaks, failed ignition, or overheating.

Gas and flame sensors, temperature feedback, spillage detection, overcook protection, and support for multiple burners are presented as possible future additions, not demonstrated capabilities. Those ideas matter because a voice command and a servo movement do not by themselves confirm that a burner lit correctly or that it is safe to keep operating.

The Hackster.io project is dated June 13, 2022. A DFRobot community version dated June 16, 2022 credits the Hackster article and corroborates its build description; it is not independent testing. The project author, Shahariar, calls the demo “just the starting point for anyone willing to turn this into a real world product.” That framing fits the documented scope: a maker demonstration of local voice control, rather than a finished appliance.
