There is no single best Pokémon card grader for every card. Before submitting, compare recent sold prices for the exact card—matching its language, printing, grade, and holder—then weigh each service’s current fee, declared-value limit, availability, estimated turnaround, grading information, and label. Pick the one that fits your goal; a grade or resale premium is never guaranteed.
How should you choose a Pokémon card grading service?
Start with the card and your reason for grading it, not a company-wide claim that one grader is always best. A likely sale, a detailed condition record, and a personal collection can lead to different choices.
If you may sell the card
Look up recent sold listings for the same card in each service’s holder. Match the language and printing, and compare like grades and label types. Keep Gem Mint, Pristine, and Beckett Black Label results separate: the number “10” alone does not make labels or grading systems equivalent. Use sold prices as a snapshot of completed transactions, not a promise of what your card will sell for.
If you want condition detail
Beckett displays four subgrades—centering, corners, edges, and surface—alongside its grade. That format gives you more visible category-level information than a single overall number. Choose it if that detail and Beckett’s label suit your purpose; subgrades do not make its result directly convertible to another company’s grade.

If it is for your collection
Holder appearance, label style, the service’s grading format, and the cost and wait you are willing to accept may matter more than resale. There is no evidence here that one company’s grade is an objective equivalent of another’s.
How do PSA, BGS, and CGC compare?
The services differ in their published grading information and current submission conditions. Fees and availability can change, so the table separates established details from information you should confirm on the relevant company’s current submission page.

These details describe each company’s own standards and service terms; they do not establish that a particular grade from one company is equivalent to the same number from another.
What do grading, shipping, and turnaround really cost?
Compare the full submission cost, not just the advertised per-card tier. The tier may depend on the card’s declared value, and the final total can also depend on shipping, handling, and any applicable membership or submission conditions. Check the company’s current terms for the order you plan to make.

PSA’s listed estimates are service estimates, not delivery guarantees. Its page says the clock starts when the order is entered into its grading system, so do not assume the estimate begins on the day you mail the cards. CGC also says its estimates are not guaranteed. A card that CGC has not yet added to its database may take longer while it researches it.
PSA reported processing approximately 90,000 cards per day globally in a February 2026 pricing and service update. That is PSA’s company-reported figure, not an independently audited measure, and it does not predict when an individual order will be completed.

How should you compare resale value?
There is no established universal PSA-versus-BGS-versus-CGC Pokémon-card premium. A September 2026 comparison by Swoop TCG reported different outcomes by card and era, illustrating why a broad average cannot reliably tell you what a particular card will bring.
- Search completed sales for the exact card, matching language, printing, and condition where possible.
- Separate the results by grading company, grade, and label type; do not combine distinct “10” labels into one bucket.
- Compare enough recent sales to see whether a result is an outlier, and note when the listings sold.
- Subtract the likely all-in grading and shipping cost from any potential sale proceeds before deciding whether submission makes sense.
Thin or inconsistent sales data is a reason to be cautious, not a reason to assume a premium. Asking prices are not completed sales, and past sold prices do not guarantee a future result.

What should you check before sending a card?
- Submission availability: Confirm that the tier is accepting orders. Beckett’s Base and Standard pause may change as capacity changes.
- Declared-value fit: Make sure the card’s likely value fits the chosen tier’s limit, and read the company’s current rules for declaring value.
- Current fees and timing: Recheck the official submission terms immediately before placing an order; fees, estimates, and open tiers can change.
- Handling and packing: A clean, correctly sized trading card sleeve can help protect a card during handling and storage, but it does not determine the grade or guarantee safe shipping. Follow the selected grader’s current packaging directions.
