PlayStation Plus Premium is the only US PlayStation Plus tier that includes Game Trials. Trials let subscribers play selected full games for a title-specific time limit; they are not ownership, a trial of every new release, or the same thing as an indefinitely available Game Catalog game. You can find eligible offers from Games home → PlayStation Plus on PS5 or in PlayStation’s current online list, then check the individual offer for its duration and conditions. If you buy the game afterward, PlayStation says your save and trophies carry over. Trophies earned during the trial also remain on your PSN profile if you do not buy the game.
What are PS5 Game Trials?
PS5 Game Trials are time-limited, full-game access offers included with PlayStation Plus Premium in the United States. Instead of receiving permanent ownership, you download or access an eligible title under the terms shown for that specific offer and can play until its allowance ends. The catalog is selective: a game being new, popular or available on PS5 does not mean it automatically has a trial.
That distinction matters because PlayStation uses several different access models. A Game Trial is a temporary license for a particular title. A Game Catalog game included with Extra or Premium remains playable while the title and your subscription remain eligible, with no two-hour-style trial clock. Premium’s cloud-streaming benefit is another delivery method and should not be treated as proof that every streamed game also has a downloadable trial.

Which PlayStation Plus plan includes Game Trials?
Premium includes Game Trials; Essential and Extra do not. Extra adds the Game Catalog, while Premium adds trials, Classics and cloud streaming on top of the benefits available in the lower tiers.

Plan names vary by market. Sony generally uses “Deluxe” instead of “Premium” in some regions, while this article’s prices and examples refer to the United States. Before subscribing, check the plan name and benefits shown for your account’s country; a US trial listing is not a guarantee of availability elsewhere.
How do I find a Game Trial on PS5?
Start at Games home → PlayStation Plus, which is the documented entry point in PlayStation’s subscription instructions. From there, look for the Game Trials area or select a title presented as a trial. You can also open the current US trial list in a browser and then search for the same title on your console.

- Select PlayStation Plus.
- Browse the section or list for titles marked as Game Trials.
- Open the individual game’s page and read the displayed duration, region and eligibility information.
- Start the offer only after confirming that it is attached to the Premium account you intend to use.
Do not rely on a fixed button label beyond the PlayStation Plus entry point. Sony can change the layout, and the visible list can change as offers are added or removed. Age restrictions, account country, the selected plan and the title’s own licensing terms can all affect whether an offer appears.
How long does a PS5 Game Trial last?
There is no universal duration. Each game’s offer sets its own limit, so read the on-screen terms rather than assuming that every trial lasts two hours, five hours or a set number of days.
For a concrete current example, PlayStation advertises a two-hour full-game trial for Baldur’s Gate 3 on its US materials (observed in 2026). That is an individual title limit, not a catalog-wide rule. PlayStation’s current What’s New and games pages also feature titles such as Palworld, but a featured game is not a promise that its trial will remain available permanently or that it has the same time allowance as another game.

The official pages reviewed do not establish whether the timer starts when you download, when you launch, or when you first enter the game, nor do they settle how pausing or suspending affects the clock. Do not infer those rules. Treat the displayed offer and its terms as controlling, and plan to stop at a natural checkpoint before the allowance expires.

What happens when the trial ends?
When the title-specific allowance is exhausted, the temporary entitlement no longer lets you continue. To keep playing, you need another valid entitlement, normally purchasing the game; subscribing to a different lower tier or buying a console does not reset a completed trial.
If the title is also in the Game Catalog, you may be able to continue through that catalog entitlement while it remains included and while your subscription qualifies. That is a separate license, however, and a title can leave the catalog or become unavailable in your region. Likewise, cloud streaming is not an automatic extension of a finished Game Trial.
A practical buy-or-stop decision is:
- Buy it if the trial answered your questions about the game’s opening, controls or performance and you want uninterrupted access.
- Stop and delete it if the allowance was not enough to justify the purchase; deleting the install does not restore used trial time.
- Check other entitlements if you already own a disc or digital license, or if the game is currently included in your Game Catalog.
Do saves and trophies carry over from a Game Trial?
Yes, when you purchase the game, PlayStation says your trial save and trophies carry forward. Use the same PSN account and the same game edition whenever possible so the full release can recognize the existing save data.
Trophies earned during the time-limited trial also remain on your PSN profile even if you decide not to buy the title. PlayStation stated this in its official PlayStation Plus guide and FAQ, and its current US information reiterates that progress and trophies carry over on purchase.

Edition differences, regional versions and separate releases can use different save structures. Before deleting data, verify which version you started and keep the local or cloud save associated with the account that ran the trial.

How is a Game Trial different from the Game Catalog?
A Game Trial is a stopwatch-limited test of a selected game. The Game Catalog is an ongoing subscription library: you can play included titles while they remain in the catalog and your plan is active, without consuming a per-game trial allowance.

Premium also supports cloud streaming in supported markets and titles. Streaming can save download time, but it is not evidence that a title has a Game Trial, and you should not assume that a stream’s save will transfer to a downloaded copy of every game.
How much does PlayStation Plus Premium cost in the US?
The US PlayStation page displayed these Premium prices in 2026: $19.99 for one month, $54.99 for three months and $159.99 for twelve months. These are displayed subscription prices, not survey averages or guaranteed future prices. Regional taxes, currency, promotions and later price changes can alter the amount you see at checkout.

Premium is a recurring paid subscription, not a free trial of PlayStation Plus itself. Check the renewal setting and cancellation terms in your account before paying. If you subscribe only to investigate one game, compare the subscription price with the game’s purchase price and the value of the catalog, Classics and streaming benefits you would actually use.
Can another account use my Premium Game Trial?
Do not assume console sharing makes every Premium benefit available to other users. PlayStation lists early access to time-limited Game Trials among benefits that cannot be shared through console sharing. The subscriber’s account should therefore be the one that starts and plays the trial.
Other console-sharing rules can apply to separately purchased games and some subscription features, but they do not turn a Premium trial into a household-wide entitlement. Check the current support terms if multiple accounts use the same PS5.

A short checklist prevents most unpleasant surprises:

- Tier: Verify that the account has Premium (or the local equivalent, such as Deluxe), not Essential or Extra.
- Title status: Open the individual offer; a game shown in a promotional feature may later disappear.
- Duration: Record the exact time limit shown for that title. Do not substitute a duration from another game.
- Edition: Note whether the offer is for a PS5, PS4 or cross-generation version and keep your save with that account.
- Storage and updates: Full-game trials can require the same download space and updates as the purchased game.
- Renewal: Review the subscription’s automatic-renewal setting so a one-off experiment does not become an unintended longer subscription.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistake: assuming Extra includes trials. Extra’s Game Catalog is not the Game Trials benefit; Premium is required for trials.
Mistake: treating every new release as eligible. Only selected games receive offers, and eligibility changes by title, region, age and plan.
Mistake: assuming all trials last two hours. The Baldur’s Gate 3 two-hour offer is an example, not a standard.
Mistake: expecting a reset after deleting the game. Removing the installation does not create a new allowance. Once the entitlement ends, use a purchase or another valid license.
Mistake: assuming trophies disappear without a purchase. PlayStation says trophies earned during the trial stay on your PSN profile, even if you do not buy the game.

Mistake: counting on a featured title to remain listed. Promotional pages change. Check the current listing immediately before starting and again before subscribing.
Is Premium worth it for Game Trials?
Premium makes the most sense when several of its benefits matter to you: the specific trial titles you want to sample, the Game Catalog, Classics and supported cloud streaming. It is harder to justify solely for an unlisted game or for the assumption that every release receives a trial.
Use the individual offer as your decision point. If the title appears in your region, the displayed allowance is enough to answer your questions, and the subscription’s other benefits offset its cost, Premium can reduce the risk of buying a game you will not enjoy. If the game has no current trial, wait for a listing or use a legitimate purchase and refund policy available in your region rather than subscribing on speculation.

Why is a newly released PS5 game missing from the Game Trials list?
Game Trials are selective promotions, not an automatic benefit for every release. A title can be excluded because Sony has not offered a trial, because the offer is unavailable in your country or age category, or because the promotion has ended. Check the individual US listing and your account’s plan rather than judging eligibility by release date.
Does a PS5 disc drive unlock a PlayStation Plus Game Trial?
No. A disc drive is relevant to playing compatible physical games, but it does not grant the digital Premium entitlement required for a Game Trial. You still need an eligible Premium account and a title-specific offer.
Are the displayed Premium prices the same in every country?
