Valve’s October 2 changelog says: “Fixed a crash in Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance.” The entry is specifically about a crash affecting the game when run through Proton; it does not claim that every crash is resolved or that the game is now fully compatible across all Linux systems. How to get the update

Does the crash fix work on Steam Deck?
The changelog establishes that Valve fixed a crash in the Proton Experimental branch, which is relevant to running the Windows game on SteamOS, including on Steam Deck. It does not name the Deck, any specific hardware or graphics driver, or a tested configuration, and it provides no success rate or post-update test results. The available information therefore does not establish that the fix works in every Steam Deck setup.
Keep the game’s September patch separate
Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance also received game update v1.9.1221 on September 25, 2026. Its notes mention a crash when the game could not access the “My Documents” folder and crash prevention related to conflicts between current game resources and mods. Those are game-side changes; the sources do not establish that they share a cause with Valve’s later Proton crash fix. The game’s Steam news page
