Our verdict on Zscaler Data Loss Prevention

Zscaler Data Loss Prevention is a cloud-delivered enterprise DLP solution for organizations that need consistent controls across distributed users, devices, applications, and cloud environments. It centralizes policies across web traffic, endpoints, email, SaaS applications, public cloud, private applications, and BYOD. The product is suited to cloud-first organizations with broad data-protection requirements rather than teams seeking a narrowly focused control for one channel.

The published plans show two platform options. Essentials Platform includes Data Security alert-only capabilities, while Zscaler Platform includes Data Security for inline web and all applications. Pricing follows a contact-sales model. This structure makes the plan distinction important: organizations that need inline protection across web and applications should evaluate the broader platform tier, while teams starting with visibility may consider the alert-only option. Support access varies by tier, with Standard offering 8x5 coverage and several paid tiers providing 24x7x365 access.

Its main strength is breadth paired with detailed detection and control options. AI-powered sensitive-data discovery works across endpoint, inline, and cloud environments, while Exact Data Match identifies specific records and sensitive values. Indexed Document Matching fingerprints sensitive documents, and optical character recognition scans text in images and embedded images. Administrators can also control removable storage, network shares, printing, and synchronization with Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive. Integrations include AWS, Microsoft, GitHub, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Slack. Organizations needing centralized protection across many channels should shortlist it; teams with a small, single-environment requirement may prefer a more focused DLP product.
