Our verdict on Working Copy

Working Copy is a Git client for iPhone and iPad, designed for people who need to browse, edit, commit and manage repositories from iOS. It supports local repository work, branches, remote hosting services and file editing through the Files app and other iOS applications. The Free plan covers core repository browsing and local Git workflows, while the Working Copy Pro Unlock adds pushing to remotes and all other pro features with permanent access to features available at purchase. A 10-day free trial is also available.

Its strongest area is the depth of Git functionality available in a mobile client. Working Copy supports offline commits, Git LFS for large files, submodules, graphical merge and rebase conflict resolution, and interactive branch-history editing with commit reordering, squashing and deletion. Repository search can cover filenames, symbols and text, while pull request creation works with Bitbucket, GitHub and GitLab. These features make it more suitable for serious repository maintenance than a narrowly focused file editor.

Working Copy also fits well into Apple-oriented automation and storage workflows. Integrations include GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, GitLab, Bitbucket, Gitea, WebDAV, the Files app and Shortcuts, with x-callback-url automation available for connected iOS workflows. AI-assisted commit messages and repository assistance add another optional layer. The trade-off is platform scope: the listed platform is iOS, so users seeking a cross-platform desktop Git GUI should choose an alternative. iPhone and iPad users who value offline work, advanced history control and mobile automation should find the feature set particularly relevant.
