Our verdict on Wirecast

Wirecast is desktop software for producing and streaming live video on macOS and Windows. It is designed for creators, broadcasters, educators, churches, sports organizations, corporate teams, and event producers that need to combine camera, screen, network, audio, and prerecorded media sources into a finished program. Its production workflow includes layered scenes with graphics, titles, layouts, chroma key, and background removal, along with virtual camera and microphone output for use in compatible applications.

Its main strength is breadth across live-production workflows. Studio includes unlimited live camera sources, NDI input, screen capture, IP cameras, web stream input, and two Rendezvous remote guests. Pro adds NDI output, cloud multistreaming, seven Rendezvous remote guests, ISO recording, and PTZ camera control. Both plans support macOS and Windows, while the broader ecosystem includes YouTube, Facebook Live, Twitch, Vimeo, LinkedIn, custom RTMP/SRT, NDI, AJA, Blackmagic Design, and Magewell. Multi-track audio routing and recording further support productions that need separate audio control.

Wirecast is a fit for teams that need one desktop application to manage varied inputs, scenes, guests, outputs, and recordings across a live event. Studio suits productions centered on cameras, screens, network sources, and a smaller number of remote guests; Pro is the better choice when ISO recording, PTZ control, cloud multistreaming, or NDI output matters. It is a paid product without a perpetual free plan, although the vendor advertises a fully functional trial with no time limit and no credit card required. The terms state that refunds are not provided, so buyers should evaluate the workflow before committing.
