Our verdict on Wingman
Wingman is a native macOS application that converts a user-provided Windows 10 or Windows 11 ISO into a bootable USB installer for PCs. It is designed for Mac users who need Windows installation media, including cases where Windows 11 hardware checks must be bypassed. Wingman supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, is free and open source, and is distributed as GPL-3.0 software. It does not download Windows images, so the ISO must come from the user.
Its strongest feature set is focused on the practical steps of preparing the drive. Wingman detects the Windows release and editions in the selected ISO, formats the USB drive as FAT32 with one MBR partition, copies the installation files, and splits oversized install.wim files into install.swm parts. An optional bypass covers Windows 11 TPM, Secure Boot, RAM, and CPU checks. The application lists external removable drives while excluding the internal startup disk, then automatically ejects the USB drive after completion. A notarized universal macOS build supports both Apple Silicon and Intel hardware.
The trade-off is a narrow platform and partitioning scope. Wingman has a macOS application but no Windows or Linux app, and its published category specifications identify MBR as the supported partition scheme. It also depends on a local Windows ISO rather than handling image downloads. Choose Wingman if you want a focused macOS utility for creating Windows 10 or 11 installer media, especially with optional Windows 11 requirement bypasses. Users who need a Windows or Linux workflow, GPT partitioning, or built-in Windows image downloads should choose another tool.
