Our verdict on VictoriaMetrics
VictoriaMetrics is an open-source time-series database and monitoring solution for teams collecting, storing, and querying high-cardinality metrics. It supports self-hosted single-node deployments, horizontally scalable clusters, and a managed cloud service. Prometheus users get PromQL-compatible querying and long-term remote storage, while MetricsQL provides the product’s native query language. It is best suited to monitoring environments that need scalable metrics storage rather than a general-purpose SQL database.
The pricing structure covers distinct deployment needs. The Open Source edition is free, licensed under Apache 2.0, and available for self-hosted single-node or cluster deployments. VictoriaMetrics Cloud is a managed deployment with capacity-based pricing starting at $200 per month and includes a 30-day trial. VictoriaMetrics Enterprise adds commercial support and additional enterprise features, with pricing available through sales. This gives smaller or self-managed teams a free path, while managed and enterprise users have paid options tied to operational requirements.
Its ecosystem fit is a major strength for observability workloads. VictoriaMetrics integrates with Grafana, Perses, Prometheus, Graphite, DataDog, InfluxDB, OpenTSDB, NewRelic, Netdata, Google PubSub, Kafka, OpenTelemetry, and other listed tools. Ingestion supports Prometheus remote write, InfluxDB, OpenTSDB, Graphite, CSV, JSON, native binary, and OpenTelemetry. Cluster deployments add replication and multi-tenancy, while VMUI provides built-in querying and visualization. Choose VictoriaMetrics for Prometheus-compatible metrics at scale, flexible retention, and multiple ingestion paths. Choose an alternative when SQL querying or broader non-metrics database workloads are central.
